Obama Adviser Says Military Action Possible Against ISIS

EDGARTOWN, Mass. — A top national security adviser to President Obama vowed Friday that the United States would “do what is necessary” in Syria to protect American interests and said that direct military action was possible against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, known as ISIS.

Benjamin J. Rhodes, the deputy national security adviser, said ISIS had become an increased threat to the United States, a threat the American government was taking seriously.

“If you come against Americans, we are going to come after you,” Mr. Rhodes said.

He declined to say whether the president was considering expanding airstrikes to include ISIS targets in Syria as well as in Iraq, where raids began this month. “We’re actively considering what’s going to be necessary in dealing with that threat,” Mr. Rhodes said. “We’re not going to be restricted by borders.”

This could be a change of policy or it might just be another case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is saying.

I thought they were the “JV” and we didn’t need to worry about them?

Can someone clarify that these are the thugs we were giving weapons to in Syria?

That’ll cause ISIS to stand up and take note.

Who does the clown think he’s fooling?

Too bad that a person like Reagan or a Cruz or Palin type wasn’t up there giving orders to the generals and much needed support to the people of our fine military.. who kick ass and take no names. When their hands aren’t tied behind their backs like we see now. Same bunch like you see at the Washington Post; don’t offend anyone. Even enemies to their own country. What a awful legacy to our history and future. Those people that have no business being anywhere near that authority because they’re inept, racist and the list goes on are making our safety at home very dangerous.

They have to get ISIS/ISIL under control, fast. It cannot be denied that ISIS/ISIL is a consequence of obamas administration Middle East policies regarding our military involvement. So in fact, he did build this, he does "own" it, and the shills for him know the presstitute mediots will soon have to start joining the dots of cause and effect.

By what military? Maybe the Syrians? 0bammy wouldn’t dare show any response to the beheading of an American citizen by john the beetle. Maybe the SAS or the Israelis will finish him. Isis seems to be the current trendy group for barbarous murderers. But after all, 0bammy said well we tried- how dumb can that be to even mention a failed rescue? And now back to the 7th green.

So, what is the regime gonna do? Team up with Assad and attack ISIS? Switch sides to the guy they said had to go, the guy who crossed the red line and who we didn't attack? Or are we just gonna attack ISIS alone?

They couldn't have screwed this up more if they had tried.

First he was going to go after Assad because of some red line somewhere. Then he backed off. Now he’s going to go after Assad’s enemies. I doubt it because Assad’s enemies are Obama’s friends.

Obama hates Assad because Assad won't invade Israel. Obama's been funding and arming the "rebels" in Syria... which probably include ISIS.

No matter how you look at it, the situation is a big mess... and Obama's certain to keep making it worse.

It actually looks to me like the left hand is actually doing the talking and maybe even the ordering. Remember a couple weeks ago it was Suzy Rice that actually confirmed that the Israelis were being supplied with reloads for their Patriots even tho all the rest were yammering about holding up help. The Grand Kenyan knows that the US gummint has to respond to this cheep moozie krap but it hurts his heart to say it himself. And Rhodes is a big deal in the White Hut so he might actually be making some calls. When a White Hut genius actually asks for more DOD money you’ll know what I’m saying.

“Oh Goodie, Mission Creep. Something Democrats are good at just ask anyone from the VietNam era.”

Since you asked:

We have been there and done that under rat presidents in Nam.

http://www.historyplace.com/unitedstates/vietnam/index-1961.html

January 20, 1961- John Fitzgerald Kennedy is inaugurated as the 35th U.S. President and declares “...we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, to insure the survival and the success of liberty.” Privately, outgoing President Eisenhower tells him “I think you’re going to have to send troops...” to Southeast Asia.

The youthful Kennedy administration is inexperienced in matters regarding Southeast Asia. Kennedy’s Secretary of Defense, 44-year-old Robert McNamara, along with civilian planners recruited from the academic community, will play a crucial role in deciding White House strategy for Vietnam over the next several years. Under their leadership, the United States will wage a limited war to force a political settlement.

However, the U.S. will be opposed by an enemy dedicated to total military victory “...whatever the sacrifices, however long the struggle...until Vietnam is fully independent and reunified,” as stated by Ho Chi Minh.

May 1961 - Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson visits President Diem in South Vietnam and hails the embattled leader as the ‘Winston Churchill of Asia.’

May 1961 - President Kennedy sends 400 American Green Beret ‘Special Advisors’ to South Vietnam to train South Vietnamese soldiers in methods of ‘counter-insurgency’ in the fight against Viet Cong guerrillas.

The role of the Green Berets soon expands to include the establishment of Civilian Irregular Defense Groups (CIDG) made up of fierce mountain men known as the Montagnards. These groups establish a series of fortified camps strung out along the mountains to thwart infiltration by North Vietnamese.

Fall - The conflict widens as 26,000 Viet Cong launch several successful attacks on South Vietnamese troops. Diem then requests more military aid from the Kennedy administration.

October 1961 - To get a first-hand look at the deteriorating military situation, top Kennedy aides, Maxwell Taylor and Walt Rostow, visit Vietnam. “If Vietnam goes, it will be exceedingly difficult to hold Southeast Asia,” Taylor reports to the President and advises Kennedy to expand the number of U.S. military advisors and to send 8000 combat soldiers.

Defense Secretary McNamara and the Joint Chiefs of Staff recommend instead a massive show of force by sending six divisions (200,000 men) to Vietnam. However, the President decides against sending any combat troops.

October 24, 1961 - On the sixth anniversary of the Republic of South Vietnam, President Kennedy sends a letter to President Diem and pledges “the United States is determined to help Vietnam preserve its independence...”

President Kennedy then sends additional military advisors along with American helicopter units to transport and direct South Vietnamese troops in battle, thus involving Americans in combat operations. Kennedy justifies the expanding U.S. military role as a means “...to prevent a Communist takeover of Vietnam which is in accordance with a policy our government has followed since 1954.” The number of military advisors sent by Kennedy will eventually surpass 16,000.

December 1961 - Viet Cong guerrillas now control much of the countryside in South Vietnam and frequently ambush South Vietnamese troops. The cost to America of maintaining South Vietnam’s sagging 200,000 man army and managing the overall conflict in Vietnam rises to a million dollars per day.

Thanks to Kabar for providing the info/data below to show the involvement in Nam way before JFK/LBJ.
