For all its horror, the beheading of an American journalist in Syria appears unlikely to change lawmakers minds about military intervention against Islamic State extremists. Its equally unclear whether the Obama administration will be asking them to back a new U.S. approach.
President Barack Obama said the United States wouldnt scale back its military posture in Iraq in response to James Foleys killing. But he offered no specifics Wednesday about what new steps he might take to protect additional captives and other Americans, and ward off what he described as the al-Qaida offshoots genocidal ambitions.
The initial response from members of Congress was mixed, reflecting the divide of the American people. While all decried Foleys death, hawks, particularly Republicans, continued to assail the Obama administrations limited airstrikes in Iraq and its refusal to target Islamic State bases in neighboring Syria. The presidents supporters voiced support for the current, cautious intervention in Iraq. No tea partiers or dovish Democrats who have cautioned against military action publicly changed position.

They must be waiting for a video of a beheading with the backdrop being the Mohave Desert.
Listen. I think I hear Congress.
...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....
The terrorists specifically called out Obama as they beheaded the journalist. Specifically. Yet here AP is making it look like it's on congress to get outraged. In other words, it's Congresses fault and not Obama's.
The clear reassessment with an easy resolution should be the administration’s integration of radical muslims into positions of power, muslim immigration, and border security.
wasn’t foley anti-israel?
That sure doesn’t make ISIS pro-Israel.
All you congress critters and state politicians, you had better tighten security around yourself and loved ones. You have now become a prime target for capture by domestic ISIS members that are already roaming inside our porous country borders.
Imagine the free advertisement ISIS will receive if they could reenact the Foley scene on prime TV using a prominent politician or his family member as the victim.
Will government give in to ISIS’ demands depending on the victim’s importance in the political hierarchy?
Congress should have addressed the domestic muzzie problem a long time ago but it is too PC to touch on the subject for fear of losing their precious seat.
Term limits would eliminate this fear and would result in a more honest, open and candid overall government.
Sadly, it will probably take car bombings or wmds used on our home soil to get our leaders to wake up and wage war.
Obviously our bombing was hurting them and they wanted it stopped. So give them more of the same doubled.
We don’t need to put troops on the ground so that they will be available for killing. If the Muslim communities can’t/won’t get enough troops to fight them, then all it will be is a death trap for us. We will keep adding more and more troops as ISIS keeps increasing with recruits.
So bomb them and drone them. Don’t let them suck us in with ground troops served up for a slaughter.
Interesting point...all they have to do is kidnap a DC politico or family member and say the air strikes stop or...chop! They’re smart, so they would kidnap one of Obamba’s commie buddies.
