Theyve turned to politicians, bureaucrats, businessmen and union reps to try to save their jobs at three Atlantic City casinos scheduled to close soon. Now, hundreds of soon-to-be unemployed dealers, cocktail servers and hotel workers are turning to what many say could be their last, best chance.
Were praying for God to open new doors to them, said Rev Eric McCoy, president of the Atlantic City Fellowship of Churches. Clergy members and the main casino workers union organized a rally and prayer service Wednesday night for the nearly 8,000 workers who will be jobless when Revel, the Showboat and Trump Plaza close down over the next few weeks.
We have hope that God is about to restore to them whatever his plan for them was, he said. He had plans for us before casinos existed, and hell have plans for us after theyre gone.
Maria Logan, a union worker and member of the New Shiloh Baptist Church, said the challenges are big, and real.

I don’t think God is a big fan of gambling.
I guess it’s worth a gamble...
“... politicians, bureaucrats, businessmen and union reps to try to save their jobs....”
Wow, they must be desperate. Wonder what they offered in exchange to get their prayers answered?
there will be an appropriate response.
God did take a gamble on me. I bet He has gambled on a lot of people.
Touche.
Jobs that are ‘shovel ready’— to be buried. Careful who you vote for New Jerseyans.
Americans gambled on Bammy and lost. Shall we list what?
Maybe if the Fellowship of Churches would have done more to ‘lead their flock’ from attacking the monied guests to AC.
Of course, the locals were ‘lied’ to also as the promise of Urban Renewal was dangled in front of them.
I haven’t been up there for a few years but it was like driving through a war zone to reach the ‘Glitter Zone’ and leaving in the middle of the night was always a challenge.
Also, that ‘NY/NJ attitude’ of the Dealers etal didn’t really set well with the majority of people (I kind of ‘miss’ the attitude) and when given an alternate, bet your bippy AC would see no more of their money.
Of course, Gambling (legal) was VERY lucrative when 1 state had it, now it is rampant in quite a few states and a lot of money is spread thin to a lot of casinos....
When Virginia finally got the lottery it was learned that MD was one of the biggest financiers to get it defeated. Turned out that 3 of the top 20 outlets were actually in Virginia. (The Potomac River ‘belongs’ to MD right up to the VA shore line and Colonial Beach VA had a few places with a gangway going to the ‘building’ in the river).
Hahahahahaha! Go ahead, pray for more gambling receipts!
They’d be better off praying to Harry Reid. (A little payola might help too.)
Did any of those effected vote for DIMs/LIBs/nobama? If so...bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
To not riot.
Lemme guess. Christie’s fault.
So, I’m not up on Atlantic City past “Boardwalk Empire”. If three casinos are closing, are there others still standing and why aren’t they closing their doors?
God moves in mysterious ways but He will not be mocked. As someone who spent a year unemployed, I do feel for those losing their jobs. Perhaps so many of them shouldn’t have placed their bets on the skinny black guy who wants to destroy capitalism.
Not exactly Pascal's Wager, but at least somewhat similar.
