Behind Closed Doors, Obama Crafts Executive Actions

When President Obama announced in June that he planned to bypass congressional gridlock and overhaul the nation’s immigration system on his own, he did so in a most public way: a speech in the White House Rose Garden.

Since then, the process of drafting what will likely be the only significant immigration changes of his presidency — and his most consequential use of executive power — has been conducted almost entirely behind closed doors, where lobbyists and interest groups invited to the White House are making their case out of public view.

Mr. Obama’s increasingly expansive appetite for the use of unilateral action on issues including immigration, tax policy and gay rights has emboldened activists and businesses to flock to the administration with their policy wish lists. It also has opened the president, already facing charges of executive overreach, to criticism that he is presiding over opaque policy-making, with the potential to reward political backers at the expense of other interests, including some on the losing side who are threatening to sue.

“We look at what they’ve been doing with executive action and are deeply concerned, and have focused a lot of our energies on how we can roll back these things,” said Geoff Burr, the vice president of federal affairs for Associated Builders and Contractors, whose member companies do 60 percent of federal construction jobs.

Mr. Burr said an executive order issued by Mr. Obama last month that would block companies with a history of workplace violations from receiving federal contracts had prompted his group to contemplate “the virtues of a litigation strategy.”

White House officials say Mr. Obama has been inclusive as he looks to wield his authority, reaching out to an array of lawmakers, experts and business leaders for a wide range of perspectives

When the government does illegal things, there is no moral reason to comply, although there may be a prudential one.

I would expect no less from "the most transparent administration in the history of the republic"...

They are transparently corrupt, and they transparently don't give a flying f--- what the People think about anything.

This was precisely my reasoning for obtaining a concealed carry permit. Before I had a child I carried a handgun however and whenever I chose, without any kind of permit. Later, prudence dictated that if I wanted to be assured of not being imprisoned for breaking an unconstitutional law, I should make myself "legal".

I hate to be a defeatist but with his executive action granting amnesty in any of it’s stupid names this country will never recover in my lifetime. Between Obamacare and a new wave of millions of illegal third world immigrants voting for democrat caudillos it will take generations to fix. Obama knows it, the democrats know it, the republican leadership is letting him get away with it and there’s no better time to completely shred any remnants of the constitution.

“workplace violations”? The lowlife criminal contractors
are the #1 cause of the wetback bum rush that has been going
on for the past 30 years. Deport ALL the wetbacks and
incarcerate the criminal employers to the fullest extent of
the law. That includes people who hire them for nannies,
lawn maintenance, etc.
Anything less is just a waste of time and money.

Hiring wetbacks is just as unAmerican as communism.

If the big “O” goes for amnesty it may turn out to be the biggest blunder of a blunder filled administration as it will please only his most left leaning base but anger everyone else from the Blacks to the already legal Hispanics to the Independents and Republicans. Since he is not running again he might not care but the Democrat party will certainly take a major hit at the polls. Of course the Chamber of Commerce will go orgazmic.

This phrase would have certainly has the word "abuse" instead of "use" in it had a Republican been President. Hard to believe the "Free Press" has become what it is..
