As Congress remains in a protracted recess for another three weeks and the political news recedes from the headlines, it didn’t take long for the nonpolitical event surrounding the unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, to become political. After all, everything in this day and age is ultimately politicized.

They’re trying to combine several issues into one meaning that none of them will be dealt with.
I'm not trying to diminish the significance of the ghetto riots and the events that led up to that.
But the minor thing that caught my attention was the detention of the Huff Post reporter.
The reporter videotaped the LEO and LEOs don't liked to be videotape or photographed. The reporter refused to give the LEO his ID, and LEOs don't like to have their authority challenged.
So the LEO processed the reporter and as it always is, the processing becomes the punishment, in this case the punishment for videotaping and refusing to ID.

While I do have my issues with those who are LEO’s who abuse their authority, got to also realize too and I am playing the “devil’s advocate” also, that MANY if not MOST LEO’s are doing so out of FEAR. Fear that they will not be going home that night, FEAR also of being the next LEO having a funeral service for.

Could it be that the reporter’s arrest was because it was for the reporter’s safety?
I was surprised that the Ferguson LEO would go after a reporter who was far removed from the action.

Again give US Senator Ted Cruz credit where credit is due:

It happened at a McDonalds. Many of the reporters were frequenting McDonalds because of food, drink, bathrooms, wifi, wall plugs, and a place to take care of the details of their activity.
The LEOs went into McDs possibly trying to get McD to shut down. The reporter videotaped the LEO. The LEO left the building but returned to investigate the reporter where the conflict began.
Its not police abuse to cinch the hand restraints down tight or knock the reporters head against the door, or holdem at the station for an hour before releasing.
The reporter got off easy because he was a reporter. So his punishment was relatively mild.
For an regular citizen it would have been worse. He would have been booked, held overnite, required to bond out, forced to hire a lawyer, then the case would be dropped. The process becomes the punishment.
So? No biggie.
When it comes to riot control, SAFETY is FIRST.
It was an individual trying to protect his constitutional rights from an aggressive, ego-tripping, military-minded LEO
Its happening everyday all over the US.
To correct you, there are BAD COPS and they need to be WEEDED OUT, but also GOOD COPS.

If the LEO lets his / her “fear” of not going home cause him / her to become little tyrants and thugs... They are in the WRONG line of work.
Being a Police officer is a dangerous line of work. People who are OK with the inherent risk of being a police officer should be the only folks allowed to do the work. Its when you get the little sh-ts that value their own asses over the rights of the people who they work for that you get over militarized police forces and thugs with badges.
Honestly... I think we need a LOT less police and alot more armed citizens. Why make a cop shoot the guy YOU should have shot?
People should be scared to effin death of other people... Not the damn police.
