President Barack Obama has not served African Americans well, according to Garry Cobb, a former linebacker for the Detroit Lions, Philadelphia Eagles, and Dallas Cowboys and current GOP candidate for a House seat out of New Jersey.
"We have to do better, we've got to do much better than that and I don't think he's done a good job,'' Cobb said Wednesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.
"You can see that African Americans are not doing well. You talk about minimum wage. Minimum wage goes after young African American kids because it doesn't let them in the workforce. We've already got a huge unemployment rate with the African American kids, so we want to put an end to that.
"We celebrate the fact that [Obama] became president but he hasn't really done anything for the African American community during that time.''
Cobb, who grew up in North Carolina, said a strong education is key element to the development of youngsters and "a door out of poverty.''
"We started out poor . As a kid I could remember eating mayonnaise sandwiches, ketchup sandwiches and drinking sugar water, but we were able to go out and do better than our parents and that's what my parents dreamed of,'' he said.
But a program to eliminate poverty enacted by President Lyndon B. Johnson encouraged men to leave the home and "it destroyed African American families throughout the country, according to Cobb.

it was really important that the first african american president be a success; a competent manager, and a strong positive, unifying voice.
that, of course, is nearly the opposite of what we got.
Well, BHO is only 6% black and is descended from slave traders and owners, rather than slaves.
Can you please give a reference for that quote by LBJ?
I have already noted many times obozo would get 90% of the Black vote even if he brought back literal slavery (and he damn near has).
Woah, I like this guy!
Next time consider that competence, experience, character, and a political philosophy that hasn’t repeatedly destroyed nations might be worth looking for in a candidate. Melanin is a poor substitute.
Good thing he’s not still playing. He would be the victim of the dreaded “towel snap” in the locker room.
Its true i seen it
Most of us would be as pleased as punch if you did better than thug in training Michael Brown or punk ass Travon.
No, do better than voting Democrat, Mister, there has been no opportunities, just as we have said all along about the Democrats Stimulus bill, tax credits and shovel ready jobs, wasnt broad enough as actual tax cuts would have been.
“We” have to stop supporting economic idiots. Welcome to the TEA Party, the US Constitution and smaller government, buddy.
The next time we decide to elect a “first black president”, we need to pay closer attention to the American in “African American”.
The democrat’s War on Poverty destroyed the Black family. 70% of black children grow up without a father in their home teaching them life’s valuable lessons.
And the Americans of African descent were doing so well before....
The great national binge on “equality” is playing out to its end. When a black person who lacks the capabilities to do the job may be criticized as freely as a white person who would be equally bad at doing the job, then a REAL advance in understanding shall have been cleared.
And the Current Occupant is not even an “authentic” version of a “black” person. Half-white, with no known ties to the descendants of slaves that is part of the background of the American experience of the black population of the United States, he was a meat puppet set up to draw out the most polarizing opinions of which may be found in the dialogue of the inhabitants of the territory once known as “the United States of America”.
In the normal sequence of things, either Colin Powell or Condoleezza Rice should have been in line to be tapped for a draft to serve as the US Presidential nominee, but for various reasons, the Establishment GOP could not see this possibility as ever happening. Both had very good credentials that may have been acceptable to the Establishment, but because neither was part of the “old boys” network, the strategy was never applied.
Today, there is another very distinguished and highly regarded person of the African persuasion, Dr. Ben Carson, a truly decent man, and one that evidently has very sharp critical thinking skills. Just to compare him side by side with the Current Occupant, is to draw a very convincing case for his consideration, and elevation to the candidacy for President. Dr. Carson is not part of the “old boy” network either, but the current strategy within the GOP is not doing much, by all odds.
Thank you.
So according to him, the only reason they voted for BamBam was to help the blacks.....
I hope Cobb will win....he is correct.
