The greatest barrier to the truth is to believe you already have it. You put your belief in the form of a question in order to tell your self that you only want the unvarnished truth, but the reality is you want to influence the outcome.

What do you think this cop was thinking—not when he pulled the trigger—but when he tried to put this thug into his car?
I don't think about it at all and neither should you, because you will never know, you may some day however learn what he says he was thinking, could even be true, but could also be made of whole cloth.
You are not curious about that at all?
What ever happened to questioning everything? Critical thinking? Everyone here just jumps to conclusions with little understanding. Why is it everyone here is so intellectually lazy?
