Erbil, Asharq Al-AwsatLeader of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and self-proclaimed caliph Abu-Bakr Al-Baghdadi fled the northern city of Mosul to return to Syrian territory after the US authorized airstrikes on ISIS positions in Iraq, a Kurdish official said.
In comments to Asharq Al-Awsat, Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) spokesman Saeed Mamo Zinni said: Caliph of the Islamic State Abu-Bakr Al-Baghdadi left Mosul for Syria a few days ago.
According to our intelligence sources, Abu-Bakr Al-Baghdadi traveled to Syria as part of a convoy of 30 Hummer vehicles after fearing being targeted by US airstrikes, Zinni said. He added that Kurdish Peshmerga forces have been able to kill a number of ISIS senior leaders.
Zinni, a media official for the KDP regional office in Nineveh, went on to claim that Kurdish Peshmerga fighters had repelled an ISIS attack in the Zammar district of Diyala province. ISIS continued its attack on Iraqi Yazidis on Wednesday despite US airstrikes.

Like it or not, we’re going to have to have a sit down with Assad and talk about a temporary alliance.
It would be much better if the Kurds got him. Then he would not end up in Cuba, just to be released later on. Not to mention the amount of money it costs just to keep these mugs alive, clothed & fed.
Thanks.
Convoy of 30 Hummvies? That’s a target enriched environment! Who TF screwed up? Once the Kirds are equipped, ISIS had better watch their butts, because they will be in for a large dose of Whoop Ass! I’m surprised that Israel hasn’t supplied them, then again, who knows?
Whoa, déjà’ vu! I could swear that there was a thread from maybe two weeks ago about this guy fleeing to Syria because he’d been wounded.

Such a nice A-10 opportunity.
I admire their sense of fairness regarding al Qaeda scum. After all, justice delayed is justice denied.
At least with dictators like Assad we know they have one priority above all others: SELF PRESERVATION.
“Like it or not, were going to have to have a sit down with Assad and talk about a temporary alliance.”
Yep
They bring a certain degree of stability but not all society’s dictators are created equal.
In the mideast, freedom brings chaos. In North Korea freedom would likely bring free market trade and true freedoms.
