The facts about Dartmouth student Taylor Woolrich and her stalker
Fox News ^ | August 12, 2014 | john R. Lott Jr.

It is often very hard for women who have been victims of sexual type crimes to publicly discuss what has happened to them. Last week in Washington, five women came forward to discuss how gun free zones at colleges have prevented them from defending themselves. From rape and sexual assault, to stalkers, to one woman whose stalker killed her husband, to death threats, these women bravely came forward and talked of the traumas -- all but one telling their story publicly for the first time.

One woman's story made national headlines. Taylor Woolrich, a junior at Dartmouth College, has been stalked for four years. Her stalker, Richard Bennett, is now in jail for the third time because he has broken restraining orders.

She has detailed how the stalking has forced her family to move, caused her to be a prisoner in her dorm room, avoid social media sites, and caused numerous other problems.

But as happens so often when crime victims speak out, others second guess their behavior. Unfortunately, last Thursday, Geraldo Rivera did just that on Fox News. Let's look at a few of his statements:

- Geraldo said that the threat against Taylor doesn't justify her getting a gun for protection: "...he is unable to make his bail, so he is in custody, and he is facing an almost certain four year sentence upon conviction."

Geraldo seems to have confused the fact that her stalker has not yet posted bail with his inability to do so. Her stalker has hired one of the very best defense lawyers in San Diego county, and apparently, has been able to post a large retainer of hundreds of thousands of dollars. . . .

I have never understood feminists who favor gun control.

Firearms are the only practical way for women as a group to be able to effectively defend themselves from men as a group.

Without firearms, we return to the days when the biggest toughest man around got whatever he wanted whenever he wanted it Including the womens.

Geraldo- You mean that people still give a crap what he says or does.

Fox news seems to be the only place that Geraldo has a place to utter his moronic statements.

I’m a man. I’m now sixty. For nearly three years I was stalked by another man. He was married, Republican and profile-wise the last type you’d expect to stalk somebody. But he was crazy. I was photographed, followed, and he called the sheriff some 41 times complaining I was making noise or looking at his property. They’d come out and mollify him. “We’re so sorry you’re having trouble with your neighbor. We’ll talk to him.” To me they’d say, “Look, this guy is crazy. If you don’t move away he’ll kill you.” (Actual conversation.) He would drive by my house at 3:00 am honking his horn. Finally, as the real estate bubble collapsed, I sold my house at a profit and moved 40 miles away. He continued to follow me and a couple of times he was waiting parked across the street when I got home. It was very scary. I got a CCW and carry everywhere. As time went on he picked somebody closer and is probably still doing it. (We were neighbors. The next guy moved shortly after he bought and lost a bundle. The realtor called and told me that he was doing the same thing to him.)

A gun 100% of the time with you is the only protection. The sheriff, as one told me, will arrest him after he kills you. (The prosecuting attorney said, “Men don’t stalk men,” and refused to prosecute.)

Even more importantly, when the stalker showed up at Taylor’s house in June with what police describe as his “rape kit,” he didn’t need his guns with him.

**************************************

Taylor is going to have to fight this guy for her life one day ..... the writing is on the wall & a gun is pretty much the only equalizer that gives her a good chance to come out alive. He’s obviously not going to respect anything (already illegally bought guns) that the legal system comes up with. Guys like this do not stop stalking until they are dead or incarcerated for life (& if they can do something harassing from jail, they will).

I wish he could be blocked if that is the perpetrator. Those who could and should prevent this are asleep at the switch. If ‘something bad happens’ once this guy is released, those who knowingly facilitated this obsession will share the blame, and perhaps, even the liability when all is said, done and sued for.

Jerald is an idiot. His logic is non-existent. He drags FoxNews down every time he appears on the network. Why does the network allow this dumb ass to stay on the air?

There are plenty of reasoned Hispanics would would do a far better job.

Now, we do realize if the college gives her the ability to carry, they would have to allow everyone to carry?

I know I’m in for it here but she can live off campus and carry. She doesn’t have to live in the dorm.

Of course her stalker should just be shot in the first place, it’s a shame it hasn’t happened before but I’m ambivalent about allowing college kids to carry. With alcohol, testosterone at a high for the young men making them crazy jealous, students carrying is a bad idea. One drunken jealous rage could ruin a young man’s life. (Or maybe we should only let the women carry?? The young ladies do get very drunk but I think less inclined to go shoot someone).

When college students are forced to live in dorms, they are deprived of their right to self defense, absorb rotten peer values, and, if they are male, can be presumed guilty of rape on flimsy evidence. If your kid is not mature enough to live off-campus, he should not be going to college.

I have never understood feminists who favor gun control.

This girl has other options. She can change her name, move to Oregon or (better) Manitoba or South Korea, get plastic surgery, dye her hair, and convert to another language. If Salman Rushdie can do it, so can she. A bit of a nuisance, perhaps, but self-defense is so scary....

That’s because it should have been a RAPE-FREE zone.

More than a little creepy that your screen name matches the stalkers name.

And even creepier that you posted an article about this previously.

Says Geraldo, who happens to have a gun permit in NY! One of the very few-They are mostly gifted out to politicians and your basic Hollywood types....and of course every media person who asks-if you’re not one of the above-forget it!
