US Sends Another 130 Troops To Iraq To Assess Humanitarian Crisis Marines described by defence secretary as assessors will weigh up how best to help Yazidis trapped on Mt Sinjar
Another 130 US troops arrived in Iraq on Tuesday on what the Pentagon described as a temporary mission to assess the scope of the humanitarian crisis facing thousands of displaced Iraqi civilians trapped on Mt Sinjar and evaluate options for getting them out to safety.
The defence secretary, Chuck Hagel, announced the deployment in remarks to Marines at the Camp Pendleton base in Southern California, on the final stop of a week-long, around-the-world trip that also took him to India, Germany and Australia.
This is not a combat, boots-on-the-ground kind of operation, Hagel said. Were not going back into Iraq in any of the same combat mission dimensions that we once were in in Iraq.

Not even a full company? Talk about “Profiles in Courage.” LOL
I’m sure the people who are starving or having their heads cut off appreciate having more ‘advisors’ .
This reminds me of helicopters crashing in the Persian Desert in 1979
Heck, the golfer-in-chief needs to show he’s “doing” something.
We’ve got to do something to protect our phoney-baloney jobs, gentlemen....Something must be done Immediately! Immediately! Harumph.....Harumpf!!!
We can all joke or talk tough. But, I’m glad it’s not my decision.
Not even close.
It is your decision. Today, or tomorrow.
Good observation.
And that is what it is; a total Obama/Democrat Party f-up in the style of Jimmy Carter.
Drip, drip, drip!
Boots floating off the ground.
Are these assessors permitted to have firearms, or would that be against Obama's so called policy?
Oh Boy! Vietnam redux!
Us oldtimers remember in the early 60’s that “advisors” were being sent to Vietnam in small groups. We were told that they were only advisors and were not there to fight.
The small groups grew to be larger groups, the larger groups grew to be larger groups......and it went on and on and on until we had thousands of soldiers fighting a full fledged war.
Those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it.
Such as Kosovo, Iraq before 2003, Sudan, Afghanistan in 1998 and 1999, and others that I may have missed. That whack a mole gif looks awesome btw...
That won't happen this time. After all, BHO received a Nobel Peace Prize, has assured us the war in Iraq is over and won, and has promised no boots on the ground. Well, at least none after these 130 brave souls, I guess.
Agree 100 %
“RIP Dewey”
Will the troops be wearing bedroom slippers since we don’t want boots on the ground?
