Those thoughts came to me as well. Tough business management, no pensions to hand out.

This personnel dept. for the tunnel excavator thingy sounds a little too over the top. doesn’t pass the smell test.
...reminds me too of Pablo Escabar (the druggie dude from Colombia). He would pay his crews really well to design and build safe houses...and he quickly realized that they would also know where those safe houses were located. Again, careers terminated early.

Also Edward Teach/Blackbeard. Used to kill one of his men and bury him with the treasure. It’s not all that unusual among really evil people.
