US Military: Airstrikes 'Won't Stop ISIS'

Islamic militants fighting in northern Iraq are unlikely to be stopped by targeted airstrikes, a US general has warned.

Joint staff operations director Lieutenant General William Mayville told a news conference that 15 airstrikes on Islamic State (IS) positions were focused initially on protecting US facilities and citizens, as well as aiding the humanitarian mission.

He said: "These airstrikes have helped check the advance of missile forces around Mount Sinjar and in the area west of Irbil.

"We assess that US airstrikes in northern Iraq have slowed IS operational tempo and temporarily disrupted their advances toward the province of Irbil.

"However, these strikes are unlikely to affect IS's overall capabilities or its operations in other areas of Iraq and Syria.

"IS remains focused on securing and gaining additional territory through Iraq and will sustain its attacks against Iraqi and Kurdish security forces and their positions as well as targeting Yazidis, Christians and other minorities."

One thing leapt into my mind this morning as I read the JCS J2 Briefing this morning-- ISIS has a straegic plan, and we do not.

The Kenyan Wonder-schmuck is just masturbating with bombs.

Why can't ISIS be surrounded and starved?

The appalling thing is that they weren't disintegrated after the first day of the attack on Mosul? Are the DC ptb telling us they were less astute about the horrific danger ISIS posed than FR posters were? That DC thought they could still control things and work to topple Assad (a relative good guy).

I don't approve of the regime-change wars, ever since George 1. But this is different. the US has a moral obligation to try to reverse the damage our policies have done.

I wonder how Obama feels about his place in history as possibly the cause of the worst slaughter of Christians ever in history. There is that potential if the "civilized" world doesn't wake up.

It seems that the model we used in 2001 in Afghanistan would work here as well. Send special forces to interface with the Peshmerga and forward air controllers to get bombs on target.

If the Peshmerga are as tough as they have been reported to be then ISIS should be back across the Syrian border in short order.

Islamic militants fighting in northern Iraq are unlikely to be stopped by targeted airstrikes, a US general has warned.

The emphasis is mine.

Of course targeted airstrikes ain't gonna do much. Given that these IS bastards have been decapitating children, I think carpet bombing would be more than appropriate.

We are being entirely too nice to these pricks and they know we're just a bunch of pussies (thank you nobama). Let's declare a Daisy Cutter jamboree!

The problem here is the same one that's existed for years in the Middle East. They want to win, convert people to Islam. We just want to get along, hoping everybody is mature enough to handle the situation. Muslims have a seventh century mindset. And the morality to go along with it.

Let's get serious and practical about this. At the end of the day, the winner is whoever has killed the most of his enemies. Period. That's all that counts. We need to win and win consistently. That's how we make real progress.

LOL, why are they airdropping halal meals into Iraq? Doesn’t Admiral Barackbar realize that airdropping meals which are not halal have little to no chance of being appropriated by the enemy? (Whether or not they are appropriated depends on how sincere ISIS is in regards to their beliefs.)

I have a suspicion that Barackbar wants to feed ISIS, rather than the actual refugees.

“Why can’t ISIS be surrounded and starved? “

They are currently occupying land about half the area of California. That land is in two countries and an autonomous zone. Surrounding them is not possible. Also, they’ve captured billions of dollars worth of bank notes from probably half a dozen countries. They also have manpads Hillary and Obama had sent to Libya and weapons we gave the Iraqis. They aren’t very strong yet, but it would take a massive effort to throw them out. Also, we’d have to fight Syrians and possibly some for-pay mercenaries as well.

They’re infantry. You stop infantry with infantry. Or you just shut up and stop playing King Of The World on television.
