He did a lot for our troops. The soldiers in Good Morning VietNam were real soldiers heading to the first Gulf War. He did USO shows for them at the time.
He did coke back in the day, and claimed to stop cold turkey after the death of John Belushi.

Been there, did that, twice in 80s, back in in NYC (no help); once with alcohol and oxy in 90s, here in PA (got help). Saw the *black bottom* each time, and survived. I'm better for going thru it, but it's not something I wish I'd or anyone else would have had to put on their life's resumé. I had a close friend in NYC, when I worked there, who didn't get out of that awful coke hole alive.
