I think Lyashko fancies himself as some kind of a modern day version of Oskar Dirlewanger, down to the released from prison criminals serving in his units, that he sees as “Einsatzgruppen”.
Read about Dirlewanger, and some of the things he did, especially while fighting against Soviet Partisans in Ukraine.
A lot of the stories of German atrocities on the east front are embellished propaganda stories, but this guy was THE REAL DEAL, an insane butcher on a huge scale.
I think you're right. I've been watching him throughout the events in Ukraine....amazing how he sees himself...arrogant is beyond an understatement. Mix that with his Nazi leanings and he's one hellish killing machine....as are those who join with him.
Kiev started to distance themselves from him when things got too heated which would point to their involvement and leadership concerning his actions. That's when Kiev began saying Lyashko couldn't always be controlled....but the Interior Ministry continues to fund and provide weaponry just the same.
