LAKEWOOD - Police in Lakewood say several people attacked and severely beat a driver whose SUV hit and killed a woman Monday night.
Investigators say 41-year-old Chandra Martin was crossing Route 88 when she was hit and killed. Martin's brother witnessed the crash, which happened near her home.
Several other people who witnessed the crash allegedly attacked the SUV driver.
The 26-year-old Lakewood man was flown to a trauma center.
Police have not made any arrests at this time.

You seem to be suggesting that the attack on the SUV driver was justified.
It’s hard to determine in cases like this...the driver might have gotten out and grabbed the hands and legs of those concerned citizens and made it appear that were beating him.
Chandra A. Martin, 41, of Lakewood, was crossing Route 88 near Linden Avenue at 6:48 p.m. when she was struck by a Ford Expedition driven by Juan C. Gregorio-Chacon, 26, of Lakewood, Police Sgt. Frank Work said.

You know how SUV drivers spontaneously bruise.
Perhaps they suspect the man’s injuries were self-inflicted...
