Israel, Palestinians agree new Gaza truce

Israel and the Palestinians agreed on Sunday to an Egyptian proposal for a new 72-hour ceasefire in Gaza starting at 1700 ET, officials from the warring sides said.

"Israel has accepted Egypt's proposal," a senior Israeli government official said, adding Israeli negotiators would return to Cairo on Monday to resume indirect talks with the Palestinians if the truce held.

The Israeli team had flown home on Friday before a previous three-day truce expired and hostilities in the month-old conflict broke out again.

A Hamas official said Palestinian factions had accepted Egypt's call and that the Cairo talks would continue.

In a statement, Egypt's Foreign Ministry urged "both sides to exploit this truce to resume indirect negotiations immediately and work towards a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire agreement".

Earlier, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said "Israel will not negotiate under fire" and warned of a protracted Israeli military campaign in the Gaza Strip if rocket salvoes continued.

To have “peace” one side must be defeated. To do otherwise is to embrace LIB “peace”...which isn’t peace.

Israel won this necessary battle. The assault tunnels have been destroyed and the missiles have stopped being launched. However the strategic situation is no better and may even be worse. Nearly two million hostile Palestinians continue to live in adjacent Gaza. Hamas or a group like it will continue to govern. They will rearm. The missiles will be more sophisticated and stealthy. The widely publicized photographs and stories of death and destruction have brought worldwide criticism to Israel and sympathy to the Palestinians. The jihadists will have no difficulty recruiting suicide terrorists. Critical support for Israel is declining in the West due to demographic changes and a woeful ignorance of history in general and the Holocaust in particular. Israel has paid a very heavy price for the historically atypical restraint and accommodation it has shown toward Palestinians over the last sixty five years. Caesar had no such troubles after conquering Gaul. The worst is yet to come truce or no truce.

What is left to negotiate, at this point?

If Egypt is so concerned, perhaps they should open their border. After all, Palestinians are pretty much made up of Egyptians and Jordanians.

Note how this is painted as a Palestinian - Israeli peace and not a Hamas - Israeli peace.

Was this some sort of face saving gesture for Hamas?

“A Hamas official said Palestinian factions had accepted Egypt’s call and that the Cairo talks would continue.”

Have the israelis ever violated a cease fire, or has it been the palis every time ... Even when the palis do and israel fires back, cbs says they both violate the cese fire.

I hate the jew haters

John Kerry has a case of the Sads. It finally happens; Israel and the Palestinians reach a Truce Agreement, and John Kerry had nothing at all to do with it. His new problem; “How can I take credit for something achieved in my absence? I’ll ask Susan Rice, she would know what to do.”

LOL

So Hamas will only send 500 missiles per day?

At least the U. N. and Washington will be happy since hostilities will have ceased during the “CEASE FIRE”.

Absurdity on parade...
