Don't forget--Porkulus wasn't nearly 1 trillion. It was 1 trillion every year, because of the combo of the baseline budgeting policy (never decrease from the prior year) and the failure of Congress to pass a budget, instead operating from continuing resolutions to fund at the prior year's level plus a bit.

This is clearly by design. Obama hasn't presented any serious budgets, and Harry Reid has prevented the Senate from even considering or conferencing on any budgets that have originated in and been passed by the House.

That's how overall Federal spending has risen from the traditional 18% for years, close to 20% through the rather profligate GWB years, up to its present level of 24 or 25%. And then, the Dems try to pile mandates onto the States, further increasing the spending and tax load.
