I’d certainly agree that we manage to mess up much of what we do. We also neglect our neighbors but rush off to a foreign country.

Might help if more people got involved.

now - to your post - look at the context of Mark 15:16 -Christ was talking to the Disciples.

Are lay people equipped to delivery the Gospel, more so minister to non believers?

Missionary work is not for everyone. As you say, it takes a dedicated leader. Paul and his brethren in the early church certainly had their problems with leadership in the 1st century. They would found a church and leave after planting the seeds, hoping that it would grow and prosper in their absence, but some would fall into rocky soil or be taken over by false teachers, birds that Jesus foretold.

Ministering to the sick and the poor are but one facet of the difficult work to be done. We all have out talents. Some have one, some have many. ...................

Did Mother Theresa waste her life? Ann Coulter would say so. There were plenty of Albanians to minister to.

I believe Coulter's comments and many of those that mirror them are the result in the unwarranted affinity that many conservatives have for Ayn Rand and her philosophy of selfishness and atheism.

With Enver Hoxha in charge? Good luck with all that.

I pretty much agree with you about poorly designed short-term missions. However, Having taken a host of kids on such trips from 2001-2011 (after having served with my wife in South America and from the US for the decade of the 90’s), I can tell you that if the purpose is well-thought out, the benefits to the young people are enormous. But, of course, I told them beforehand that they were not going for the purpose of saving the world, rather to learn something of the culture and to see how that culture viewed and worshiped God. Their horizons were greatly broadened.

Bottom line: I agree with you. Thanks for your clarification.

Ann is mistaken on this one.

Christianity is based on the fact that God the Son left His comfortable position in heaven with the Father to come to earth to die.

Philippians 2:
Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:

6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, 7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death— even death on a cross!

9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Had Jesus followed Ann’s prescription, He would never have left heaven to die for us. He wouldn't have wanted to be seen as an 'idiot', however, 'the foolishness of God is wiser than men;'(1Co1:25)

And, then, He endangered us by saying, ""If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me." (Lu 9:23)

I'll be an idiot for Jesus.

I believe at one time I was accepted as the token Catholic Neener; however, that may have been rescinded, I don't recall.

I think I remember the same, wags. You were an honorary Neener. This is the first gathering of neeners in a while. I don’t remember who else was on the list that was not to be kept.

That's what happens when you become listless.

I believe that our non-list of Neeners may parallel the members (or those who were drafted against their will) of the Official Hollow Earth and Other Quirky Items Of Theological Interest (OHEOQITI) Ping List.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I was excluded from that one due to the no papists policy.

Neeners always had a secret “Neener Famous Hollow Thoughts” registry. We didn’t need no steenkin’ hollow earth.
