President Obama has approved a mission to to drop humanitarian aid in Iraq for the 40,000 or so religious minorities stranded on a mountaintop in the country's north after Islamic militants forced them to flee, senior U.S. officials told Fox News Thursday night.
However, the officials said the air drops had not yet begun.
If all goes well, they said, the mission will be completed following a single pass of U.S. military cargo jets. The officials did not disclose the planes' starting point due to host nation sensitivities.
It was possible the mission also could include air strikes to protect those delivering the aid and dissuade militants from stealing the supplies.

While I agree with attempting to deliver these humanitarian supplies, I have a bad feeling about this.

The US should bomb the Islamic State, gain control of the Mosul Dam, and arm our friends the Kurdish Peshmerga to defend the Kurds, Christians, Yazidis and other religious minorities. Forget a united Iraq. The Kurds should have their own nation.
Forget about “Islamic Democracy” and the “Arab Spring”. That has led to Gaza, the Muslim Brotherhood, and the terrorist uprisings in Syria and Libya. Rule by Kings and more secular military dictators has been better for most Arabs, and particularly non-Salafist minorities.
The article does not explicitly say, but implies, that the refugees are Christians. Notably, the article does not clarify what the “humanitarian aid” actually is. If the minorities are Christian, I’m guessing that the “aid” will end up being several Qurans, and nothing more. If the minorities are Shiites or anti-ISIS Sunnis, the “aid” will probably include armaments.
I’m not sure whether Soetoro prefers the Sunnis or the Shiites (perhaps he prefers both), but I do know that he has a pathological hatred of Christians. If he directly approved this mission, he did so because he thinks it will benefit the Islamic faction of his choosing.
