I’m sorry. My computer is misbehaving and I couldn’t copy and paste the article. It’s worth reading, however. Especially the part about how Mrs. McDonnell planned to try to sell some unapproved diet supplement that her benefactor made to Ann Romney to “cure” her MS! Creepy.
Politics is like a pond. The scum rises to the top.
That was ‘creepy’ - the whole trial is sordidly entertaining. The “Mrs” was the root cause of the problem it appears (greedy & needy), but the “Mr” showed some poor judgement as well. Have the prosecutors made their case? Most court observers are saying ‘no’, but anything can happen with a jury trial. Here’s a link - more at the RTD source if you’re interested.
Maureen McDonnell was ‘a nutbag,’ former aide told prosecutors

Wow! But, as I understand, this was all legal under the campaign laws of VA. Am I wrong about that impression?
I was outraged about this story until I learned that it was leagal and had been the practice of previous governors.
This might REALLY sound insane, but has anyone ever considered that the McDonnells actually believed in the product? That would explain why they acted so brazen (they didn’t FEEL dirty), why she hit up Anne Romney (honestly trying to help), why if previous governors did it it might be so easy for them to disregard what would be obvious ethical problems...
It’s that so many people...including personal friends of mine... who knew them were so impressed with how earnest they seemed.
Yes. They go to my daughter's church and she always was impressed by them.
He didn’t violate state law as I understand it as well. My personal opinion is that this was all to destroy him politically (and it has). He was a potential VP candidate for Romney (she probably sandbagged him with her pushing sketchy Anatabloc on Ann Romney) and surely would have moved on to higher office at some point. He was not going along with Obama (Obamacare, expanding Medicaid, etc.). The defense is stating that the Feds are overreaching. It was a perfect storm for the Feds ... greedy, needy wife, snake-oil salesman Mr. Tic-Tac, and a Gov who was so into his job, busy schedule, etc. that he just let it all slide, if he truly knew the full extent of what was going on (I don’t think so - he wanted to keep her happy & off his back - she’s said to be “mean/difficult” if not happy, very sweet if she is). I do think he might be in trouble on the loan from Williams regarding his beach property company. She might be charged with obstruction of justice because she returned the dresses Williams bought for her with a cover-my-butt letter AFTER she’d been interviewed by investigators.
The local radio guys are all talking about it - it’s a new “installment” every day on the radio & newspaper as this thing unfolds .... if it weren’t so sad to see all the “mess” and how their lives have run off the tracks, it would be a real hoot - as it is, it’s entertaining.
Thanks for This Town tip. I will look into it.
