Well, it’s immediate, painless, foolproof, not affected by the subject’s body weight, and doesn’t require a physician’s assistance. Sounds like a winner to me.

Hey, this is the 21st century, we can do better than that
I think a high powered laser would be best, fast, and it
cauterizes the wound so very little bleeding, short
clean up and quick turn around.

Not only that, it would return the death penalty's lost effectiveness as a deterrent by returning to a method that is fearsome rather than peaceful.
