The purpose of impeachment is to remove a President, it has no other object.
It can have other objectives.
In an earlier post you said impeachment was a political act. Now you are saying that it's purely technocratic.
It is not, and there is no reason why we should allow it to be.
With impeachment, we articulate a truthful message, we rally the people who don't like Obama and we send a message to the remaining people that Obama deserves to be impeached.
And I would add, we go after politically the Democrat senators in red states who vote against it.
In the alternative course of inaction, the opposite happens.
I believe that you are reading what you want to read. Impeachment has three possible outcomes, all political:
1. Conviction in the Senate and removal from office
2. Acquittal by the Senate
3. Adjournment of the Senate sitting in trial without a vote. This is what happened in Clinton’s Impeachment.
You can pursue the truthful message without any of the above. You can go after liberal Senators in red states without permitting the Democrats to energize their lethargic base. Given that the only good outcome of the three is unachievable, a different course of action is preferrable.
You get it exactly. This could rally the entire country just like the Tea Party did and put pressure on the regime. He does not handle pressure very well and is not articulate like Clinton was.
