Citing Redactions, Feinstein Delays Release of Report on CIA Interrogations

The Obama administration censored significant portions of the findings of an investigation into the CIA’s use of harsh interrogation methods on suspected terrorists, forcing the chairwoman of the Senate Intelligence Committee to delay their release “until further notice.”

The postponement added to serious frictions over the investigation between the administration and lawmakers, who have been pressing for the swiftest, most extensive publication of the findings on one of darkest chapters in the CIA’s 65-year history.

Feinstein announced the delay only hours after the White House returned the document to her after it completed its declassification review. It also came after Obama acknowledged hours earlier that interrogators for the spy agency had tortured suspected terrorists.

But Obama also voiced “full confidence” in CIA Director John Brennan a day after the CIA revealed that an internal investigation found – contrary to Brennan’s earlier denials – that agency personnel had broken into a protected database that was supposed to be for the exclusive use of Feinstein’s staff.

It wasn’t known what details of the 480-page executive summary, findings and conclusions of the Senate committee’s five-year, $40 million probe were censored during declassification reviews by the CIA and then the White House, which oversaw the process of excising information deemed sensitive to national security.

“A preliminary review of the report indicates that there have been significant redactions. We need additional time to understand the basis for these redactions and determine their justification,” Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., said in a statement.

Sen. Mark Udall, D-Colo., a member of the committee who’s been fiercely critical of the CIA interrogation program, also decried the blackouts, saying President Barack Obama had pledged to ensure a release of the findings.

Oh, please.

What this is really about is trying to use the "blame Bush" strategy again in advance of elections.

The CIA is worthless. Had no clue in Benghazi,Cairo, Pakistan, totally lost watching porno on our computers. Totally defund them— 100%. Shut them down until this traitor is hauled out of office by coup or election.

Here's the key folks.

The world "torture" has to be removed, along with all detailed descriptions of actions a lay jury could define as torture.

I'm certain Obama and his team HATE the fact they have to do this.

But it's either that or subject 10,000 US Patriots...or more...to international War Crimes tribunals.

Waterboarding IS torture. We did it. We just can't call it that.

AND IT WAS NECESSARY AND APPROPRIATE.

I just wondered how many terrorists drowned as a result of waterboarding? How many people had heartattacks? What I wonder is when did scaring the crap out of someone become torture? I have also read that as part of Seal training they are routinely waterboarded and maybe all special forces are.

I view torture as something that leaves behind broken bones or knocked out teeth, or someone being subjected to electricity applied to their sensitive areas.

Each day when I wake up the big questions are:

What will Obama do today to damage, weaken or embarrass America?

What will Obama do today to screw over patriotic, loyal, hard working American citizens?

"I have also read that as part of Seal training they are routinely waterboarded and maybe all special forces are."

Please open you mind and allow me to educate you.

I'm a SERE Graduate from 1978...Warner Springs CA.

First, in any given SERE class, even back then, no more than 2-3 of 40-50 were subjected to the Waterboard. Of those, each and every one has some degree of PTSD and many are on 100% VA disability.

It permanently rewires your brain. Nobody comes away without damage, including those who apply it.

It is nothing like what you see in the movies as an actual depiction would reveal classified information.

It is now forbidden in EVERY US Military training environment. Warner Springs was the last hold-out. All other facilites banned it back in the 80s/early 90s.
