SAN ANTONIO -- Three San Antonio Police officers are being investigated for possibly using excessive force, after a May 20 incident in west San Antonio left a man with injuries to his face, skull and neck.
Roger Carlos was in the 10600 block of Westover Hills Boulevard taking photos of a building that will soon be home to his wife's medical practice, when he was approached by three officers around 2:30 p.m.
The officers were identified as an undercover drug task force officer and two SAPD SWAT members.
According to an SAPD incident report released to the I-Team, the officers had been pursuing a suspect nearby who was wanted on a felony warrant.
Josue Gonzalez, 27, fled from police away from Loop 410 along the Highway 151 access road before he exited at Westover Hills and ditched his car in the parking lot of a restaurant. The restaurant is a few hundred feet from where Carlos was standing.
"All three of them started beating me on the head," said Carlos, who still showed visible signs of the beating when he spoke with KENS 5 weeks after the incident.
"It was unbelievable. I couldn't believe it was happening to me."
Carlos said he was struck about 50 times, even though he complied with the officers' instructions and did not fight back.
Clearly it was a case of mistaken identity. SAPD Chief William McManus Shortly after being handcuffed and explaining to officers that he owned the property, a fourth officer approached and said the suspect was in custody nearby.
Flogg me.
The Police Chief just didn’t really seem to take this mans beating very seriously in the televised interview. He says something like: Obviously a case of mistaken identity... Then the butt monkeys start flying.
Would the beating have been justified if they HAD the right guy?

McManus (Chief of Police) told KENS TV, From the report that Ive read, from the photo that I saw and from your description, Ive not seen anything at this point that would indicate to me that anything out of order happened.
“From the report that I’ve read, from the photo that I saw and from your description, I’ve not seen anything at this point that would indicate to me that anything out of order happened.”
Really? Trash from top to bottom.
Well, yeah, if there was any threat whatsoever that the officers wouldn’t be able to go home safe that night.
Police work is supposed to be hazard free.
The guy obviously has a dirty face and acne ...
Hey, where’s all those “Defend the cops at all cost” FReepers now?
He’s gonna pay for that remark..
No. Not if the perp surrendered.
They are still here. But stay away from these threads typically.
I had one challenge me when this story first broke.
Clown hadn’t even read the article.
So basically these hooligans were too busy opening up a can of whoop ass on an innocent man to pay attention to their radios or even call it in they they were approaching someone who may have matched the description of the real perp!
“They are still here. But stay away from these threads typically.”
They are most likely the same ones who routinely vote for RINOs and think the voters should be “thankful” for men like Thad Cochran and Pat Roberts.
I think I understand these guys.
They view anti-Police sentiment through the lens of the 60’s and 70’s. They view anti establishment as communist agitators.
The Birch Society long cautioned it’s members to support the Police as the institution is being undermined by leftist.
So I believe these typically older voters mean well, but are misguided. They need education and time to re-evaluate their position.

They were just frustrated there wasn’t a dog to shoot.
