Thomas Ravenel, the independent petition candidate challenging Republican U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham for his seat, on Sunday challenged his fellow candidates to a series of debates to held throughout the state, according to WCIV-TV.

Ravenel, who recently announced he would be starring in the second season of Bravo's reality TV series "Southern Charm," said he wants all 11 debates he's called for to be televised. The debates would take place in Anderson, Beaufort, Charleston, Columbia, Florence, Greenville, Myrtle Beach, North Augusta, Rock Hill, Spartanburg and Sumter.

The challenge comes not long after a recent Palmetto Politics Poll, commissioned by The Post and Courier, WCIV-TV and other state television stations, showed Graham with a strong lead over his challengers. Among those polled, 45 percent said they would vote for Graham, while Democratic challenger Brad Hutto had 33 percent of the vote. Former state treasurer Ravenel was the choice of 10 percent, with 4 percent supporting Libertarian Victor Kocher and 8 percent undecided, based on a survey of 650 people.

SC people are hopeless, as Mr. Ravenel will find.

If the Rats are smart(they are) the Libertarian candidate and the Independents will be given the green light. Won’t work inS.C but Virginia? Other close races?

We are not hopeless in SC. There was no one running against Graham that excited the voter base, so the turnout was low and Graham got out his voters. He is no shoe-in in the general. I do not know anyone here who likes the way he represents the state of SC.

I agree, the thousands of liberals who crossed over for Graham will be voting for their own candidate.

I did read that Lee Bright was an exceptionally weak challenger, but I still expect a large Graham victory on Nov. 4.
