(... re-posted because some d-bag hijacked the previous thread with a grammar lesson)

Eye opening and disheartening. I work w/ 90% Indians in a high tech field and they are laying off US citizens to bring over less qualified, far less knowledgeable, but cheaper, consultants.

My son couldn’t get a summer job. He went to places like Subway. They hired the illegals, but not the white, clean cut, college student.

Chamber of Commerce is not selling out and influencing congress as a matter of isolated thinking.

It is very bad out there, and these companies are not taking care of their country.

Of course being taxed, sued, forced to pay unemployment, disability, insurance to the hilt to complaining entitlement demanders can’t be a good situation.

Broken

I find that interesting, because it was about that time or shortly afterwards I noticed (as an obvious American citizen) that presenting all of your papers was increasingly necessary when starting a job.

If anything the required workplace posters for the eVerify program are an ominous warning to employers about not poking their nose too deeply into the status of non-citizens.

Surely citizenship gives you a leg up on joining the military.

employers are obligated to hire them.

Not what the law says.

Employers are prohibited from discriminating against non-citizens, but are not required to hire them. They can choose to hire a citizen for any reason other than the fact that he IS a citizen.

Also, it's a pretty idiotic employer who can't come up with a legally acceptable reason for hiring applicant A rather than applicant B. There's no requirement he write down the REAL reason for the decision, which may very well be that the applicant rejected is black, or female, or a non-citizen.
