My brother was stationed there after he joining the Air Force. It was unusual because we are from western Ark and they don’t normally assign new recruits to bases near home.

But that was early 1980’s.

And BTW folks, LRAFB is not in Little Rock. It’s actually north of North LR and technically in Jacksonville.

How dare you insult a Corvair like that :-), perhaps he should be driving an old Fiat. The Corvair was far better a car than he will ever be a POTUS. The 65' and later versions IRS was not all that different in design and execution from the Corvette's IRS. The engine in many was was a brilliant Ed Cole influenced design, without getting into the details.

I wish I could expound with positive platitudes about Lear Deader but it is impossible...

Well what did the DRBC have to say to the UNOP regarding the INTR. Does the UNOP have official OPRS vis-a-vis FLA’s or not?

Well what if the VP’s PC, that was supposed to be on the QT, got picked up by the VC...

We’ll all end up doing KP...

(Sorry, I couldn’t resist...) ;-)

I think it was Wiederkehr’s Niagara White wine that I used to get and liked. Normally hate wine.

Having spent three and a half year at “The Rock”. The biggest C-130 patch on the planet.

Outside of an enormous ramp and 100 plus Herks divided up between four squadrons. One almost permanently TDY awaiting flight or maintenance. Plus a small Air Guard ramp that had Voodoos back in 1973-76. There is really not a lot to the base.

Maintenance hangars, barracks, NCO, O and All Ranks clubs. Some admin. Andrews is larger by comparison.

If you were back there during the 70s then you had the SAC Wing there with the Titan II ICBMs.

Was stationed there in 1992 and 1993 while assigned to JRTC. Lived just off base in a little subdivision behind Wal-Mart.

Little Rock was originally a SAC base. With B-47s and B-58 Hustlers assigned. Until they were quickly retired.

314 Field Maintenance Sqdn. Under Tactical Air Command for assigned C-130s. A training squadron. One almost always TDY. And another squadron that tried to perfect LAPES. Low Altitude Parachute Extraction System. Until there were too many accidents and the idea was scrapped.

Also lost two Herks night formation flight training in the Ouachita Mountains under complete ENCOM. In work ups to the failed and aborted Iranian Rescue Mission.

I was an assigned Flight line and Phase Maintenance troop. Lots of time spent in all kinds of weather keeping the airframes airworthy.

The “Steely Eyes Missile Men” flew out to the silos in blue AF Hueys.

"LRAFB was holding a drill this morning testing emergency response procedures. The lockdown right now is NOT A DRILL."

AGAIN?!?!?!? How is it that all kinds of mysteriously coincidental events like this keep occurring?

About a year ago at Wright Patterson AFB there was a lockdown because of a person spotted carrying a gun. They locked down some buildings not close to me. A guy I work with got a call from his wife that the lockdown had started. About an HOUR later they locked down my building too. 2 hours later they opened everything up, I guess there wasn’t anyone with a gun after all. An hour later I leave the base and they are still inspecting all the cars leaving. The gate police never got the word.
