NASHVILLE, Tenn. - More than 700 constituents packed the Millennium Maxwell House Tuesday night in support of State Representative Joe Carr, as he hopes to pull off an upset in the Republican Primary.

A rally, called Restore America, was held and featured radio host and political commentator Laura Ingraham campaigning for the Lascassas Republican. Carr hopes to defeat incumbent Sen. Lamar Alexander in the Republican primary on August 7.

The Tea Party challenger said he's happy about the early voting turnout and is ready to hit the road to talk to more Tennesseans.

“The voters want to hear what we have to say, they want contrast to compare Lamar Alexander's amnesty record with my record with sticking up with the American worker and Tennessee families, and they're going to get a good chance of seeing that,” said Carr.

The event was sponsored by Beat Lamar, a project launched by Super PAC The Real Conservatives National Committee.

Meanwhile, Senator Alexander gained a new endorsement Tuesday from former Senator Fred Thompson.

Fred Same Cloth Establishment is a simple player for the UniParty. More for personal gain than principle and basically dumb to boot.

“Disappointed in Fred Thompson, but they all support each other. “

He supported John Glenn too after Glenn’s “ride into space for favors” gambit.

I’ll take Laura Ingraham over Fred any day.

Time to send Alexander packing for some middle-to-leftist think tank or president of some left-of-center university. No need to worry about him; he’ll cash in somehow.

Thompson is also joined at the hip with McCain. Barf. I laugh when I hear him assuring people that you’ll retain FULL OWNERSHIP of your home with a reverse mortgage. Just trust him...

Fred Thompson wasn’t dumb. He just forgot where he came from. For however long he was my senator, West Tennessee didn’t see Fred. He couldn’t make up his mind about running. Those things didn’t show leadership qualities to me, forgot he didn’t vote yes on Bill Clinton.

Actually, not so. Thompson does not hold warm feelings about Glenn at all. When CNN went to him to do a puff piece on Glenn’s career as he was exiting the Senate, Thompson told them he couldn’t say what he thought about him on television.

Thompson supports GOP incumbents, period. Sadly, he even went to Rhode Island in 2006 to campaign for the execrable Communist then-RINO Lincoln Chafee over his center-right challenger Steve Laffey.

I think Fred dropped a line to Lamar a day or two before he announced his plans to retire. Lamar likely told W and Karl and no one else stood a chance. I lost my respect for Fred in the Senate hearings. He opened with “Let the chips fall where they may”. In the end it was name no names and he looked and acted like his attentions were anywhere else but focused on the hearings. His farce POTUS run as a diversion for McCain was another reason.
