Post #41 does not substantiate post #4. Many Departments take advantage of Government supplied equipment because they cannot purchase such equipment new. What will happen, in time, is that when the vehicles degrade, the Departments will not spend the funds to keep them operable.

If officers wish to train hard, and keep themselves in excellent physical condition, I defend it. I support officers who keep themselves fit and able to do the job. Physically fit officers bother FReepers who are more comfortable with having "doughnut shop" cops to snark about.

A decision for a Department to have a SWAT team must have the permission of the Department Head. It does not mean that the individual officers view the public as a threat.
