The concept of a fence in Texas is ludicrous.

The border is the center of a meandering river. A fence can’t be built in a river. If the fence is constructed on the Texas bank, the river is effectively ceded to mexico. Then there is the matter of the law. If the Latrinos reach the center of the unprotected river they become subject to US law and granted a deportation trial. The fence in effect guarantees all who cross the river instant asylum.

The concept of a fence is a joke, a pie in the sky irrational nothingness.

Don’t even get me started about that fence. I’ve had this discussion many times with freepers who think a fence is THE answer. They cite the Great Wall of China and the Barrier Wall in Israel without bothering to pay attention to the significant differences.

The Great Wall of China took well over 300 years and 500,000 men to build. The United States is not quite 240 years old itself.

Israel’s separation barrier is approximately 400 miles long, which is one-third the length of the Texas border and one-fourth the length of the U.S. border. The terrain in Israel does not include 1200 miles of water. The barrier is primarily intended to prevent terrorist attacks.

Different purposes. Different terrain. Different resources. Different time periods.

Oh, and guess what’s going on in Israel with the Barrier Wall today? Fox News just did a segment on ... wait for it ... TUNNELS! Israel was taken completely by surprise to discover that Hamas has an extensive tunnel system.

Really? They were surprised that those who want to get past a fence would tunnel under it? Sorry, folks. A fence just redirects their focus. If they want in, they’ll find a way around a fence.

Landmines, drones, and manned security towers with shoot-to-kill orders would be more effective than a fence.

Agreed. It's much more complicated than most people think.

I wonder if you can train alligators to stay on the U.S. side of the river? ;-)
