Rep. Justin Amash earns Ted Cruz endorsement weeks ahead of primary vote

p>GRAND RAPIDS, MI — U.S. Rep. Justin Amash has an endorsement of his own to tout with Tea Party firebrand Ted Cruz.

In a radio ad airing Tuesday, July 15, across West Michigan, Cruz throws support behind Amash, who's working to fend off challenger Brian Ellis in the upcoming Third District GOP primary. Cruz, a first-term Republican Senator from Texas known for filibustering the Affordable Care Act last fall, admires Amash for criticizing the policies of President Barack Obama.

"Washington needs more conservatives with backbone, more conservatives like Justin Amash," said Cruz in the ad. "Justin and I have fought to repeal 'Obamacare,' to defend the right to life and uphold the Constitution against Barack Obama and his cronies."

Amash, in addition to Cruz, is endorsed by conservative organizations Club for Growth and FreedomWorks. Members of West Michigan's wealthy DeVos family also have donated thousands in campaign contributions.

On Monday, Ellis scored the backing of former U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, continuing a line of endorsements in recent months.

Poll numbers continue to show a healthy lead for Amash, with one commissioned by the campaign itself showed the incumbent with a 22-point lead. Independent pollsters have found similar results.

The Ellis campaign sent the following statement Tuesday afternoon in response to the endorsement:

"Justin Amash's Washington, D.C., friends may not care, but here in West Michigan, conservatives oppose Justin Amash's votes to close Guantanamo Bay, allow gender selection abortions and let our tax dollars fund America's largest abortion provider. Brian Ellis much prefers the endorsements of Right to Life of Michigan, the Michigan Farm Bureau, Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce and former West Michigan Congressman Pete Hoekstra."

Very telling considering our conversations yesterday and today. Cruz supports Amash, Hoekstra and LaTourette want to take him out.

Amash is a fighter on all the right issues. He is very like Cruz in his own way.

I wonder how long it will take the Society for Promoters of RINO Candidates to show up to say that Amash is not a conservative and needs to be replaced with their candidate?

I love Cruz. But Amash is still a Paulbot creep who loves to defend Iranian dictators.

Why is that, HA ?

To this I say, Cruz made a mistake, just like he did when he praised Mandela and endorsed repeal of the 17th amendment (if not for which he’d have been defeated by David Dewhurst who had the support of almost every Republican in the leg).

Nobody’s perfect.

The “GOP-E” gets it right in opposing this Ronulan Amash, broken clock right twice a day and all that.

>> Amash is a fighter on all the right issues. <<

Support for a "contiguous" Palestinian state (which would destroy the state of Israel by connecting the Gaza strip with the "west bank", when they are opposite sides of Israel) and defending lunatic Iranian dictators are the "right" issues?

Only if you're a Paulbot, which sadly appears to be the case for Amash and most of his apologists.

>> Cruz supports Amash <<

And freeper favorites Sarah Palin and Fred Thompson supported John McCain for re-election during his most recent primary. Does that mean we should too?

I wonder how long it will take the "true conservatives" defending Paultard Justin Amash to defend voting with Planned Parenthood and Hamas?

Oh that right, your fellow Amash worshipers have ALREADY have done that on this thread. Amazing how low you're stoop to defend your liberal Palestinian Paulbot.

$100 says if Amash wrote legislation to make Obama President for life, you'd all line up to defend him and scream "GOP-E!!! GOP-E!! GOP-E!!! at anyone who felt it was a bad idea to give Obama unlimited time in office.

BillyBoy, myself and many other FReepers will enjoy seeing Amash kick your candidate’s butt come election day. Your GOPe candidate is going down. I’m not sure the GOPe has succeeded anywhere in any federal office this election cycle in taking out their Tea Party incumbent targets. It must be depressing for your GOPe team.

Hamas and The New York Times will be rejoicing if your guy wins as well. Have fun partying with the likes of them. Better to be in bed with terrorists and marxists than the “GOP-E!!” right?

Excellent comparison.

Polls out, Amash is up huge 47%-24%. A very similar margin as other recent polls.

But the electorally weak Kerry B trails Dave Trott big, 53%-31%.

In the race for Upton’s seat, which is flying under the radar, Businessman Paul Mitchell leads State Senator John Moolenaar by 50%-23%.

Tea Party express has endorsed Moolenaar, but so have “GOP-E” figures, and yet he trails big in this poll. Mitchell is running as an “outsider” and running a lot of negative ads.

Why won’t House Atreides reply to my query as to why Justin Amash defended the Iranian dictator ? He’s been asked numerous times and hides from answering. Very curious.

Well if he doesn’t want to answer I’d just leave him alone. Silence speaks in this case, there is no defense of Amash on that issue.
