The Oklahoma Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that the Legislature had the authority to repeal Common Core education standards for English and math in the state's public schools.
...
Conservative groups maintained that the standards represented federal intrusion into Oklahoma's public education system, and Gov. Mary Fallin signed into law legislation repealing the standards last month.

Common Core is flawed, but it’s more painful for the teachers than students — the primary reason the program is having difficulty — teachers are working harder.
So in other news Fox has a poll there that says the president approval rating is 51%. What is that all about.
The astonishing thing is anyone would think they DIDN’T have the authority.
51% of the US population receives a check each month from Uncle Sugar.
Bill & Melinda Gates’ private foundation is reported to have spent $25 million promoting CORE, but others say 10 times that much. When Bill was asked if there was any self interest because Microsoft supposedly would supply all of the software and hardware...Bill had to reach down and pull up his pants........
I find myself in that population via Social Security retirement. Even so, my rating of nobama is a big fat ZERO. Has been since he announced in 2007.
I would expect that not all that get a check, such as social security folks, vote liberal. Not at all. I think the 51% is just a coincidence. The number is probably fudged by the lamestream media just to get it over 50%.
The real question with regard to common core. . .did they ditch the big data trove that went with it? Parents don’t have a clue.
Have you struggled with helping an elementary aged child with their homework?
We’ve had math problems where we couldn’t figure out what the question was asking! And since my husband tutored college students in calculus, geometry and thermodynamics, you can’t blame this on “dumb parents”.
Everything goes to court regardless of the authority. It would be refreshing to see some courts throw cases out.
What exactly is your contention with my post #2?
“Flawed” is an understatement.
And if teachers were that opposed to it, where is the opposition from teachers’ unions?
What quantity does “that” represent?
You suggested teachers didn’t like it because they had to work harder.
My opinion is that the problems are badly written, not well matched to the skill level of students (often multi-step at one point, absurdly simple the next) and the opposition is due to it being a badly designed curriculum.
