Honduran President Juan Hernandez has blamed U.S. drug policy for sparking violence in Central American countries and driving a surge of migration to the United States, according to an interview published today. Hernandez, who took office in January after winning on a pledge to be tough on crime, said only a drop in violence would curb the wave of families and unaccompanied minors fleeing Central America. A surge in minors leaving Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras have overwhelmed temporary detention facilities on the U.S. border. 'Honduras has been living in an emergency for a decade,' Hernandez told Mexican daily newspaper Excelsior. 'The root cause is that the United States and Colombia carried out big operations in the fight against drugs. Then Mexico did it.' Those operations pushed drug traffickers into Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador, he suggested, adding: 'This is creating a serious problem for us that sparked this migration.' Hernandez said more resources were needed in Central America to fight drug gangs and he said his country was deserving of U.S. aid similar to the programs that funded anti-drug operations in Colombia and Mexico. Honduras has the highest murder rate in the world.

How Eisenhower solved illegal border crossings from Mexico

Enforce immigration laws and illegal aliens will leave. Announce that you will not enforce immigration laws and illegal aliens will come pouring in over the border.

This is the kind of anarchy and incompetent leadership you get when drug laws are ignored.

Sure, let's spend millions we don't have to squeeze a different part of the drug-supply balloon and shift the demographic composition of our illegal alien invasion.

I call bull shiite Mr. President. I worked in both embassies in Honduras and El Salvador, and the common denominator is your inability an unwillingness to provide justice for your people.

Your predecessor Ricardo Maduro had the gangs beat via Operation Mano Duro, then he sought to negotiate a treaty instead. You do negotiate with gangs and drug dealers. You kill them and take their shit.

Bring back the death penalty in Honduras, and build a conveyor belt to the gallows.

That is how you get your country back.<[> And don't get me started on the monopoly your richest families have on virtually all industries, preventing middle-class growth.

Corrupt countries and people have to blame someone for the messes they make. Better the people stay home, and change their countries into something worth living in, rather than rush to prop up our corrupt Democrats.

if they do not like our “War on Drugs” they should not participate. Of course they would have to forgo all of the money, arms, and police state tactics that go with it. Our policies are wrong for the US and the rest of the world but they come to it willingly.

If it were my country to rule I would decriminalize all drugs and tell the US to dry up its domestic drug usage prior to lecturing me. But then how would I get my black helicopters and ninja suits or justify no knock warrantless searches, and shooting household pets?
