Straggling bull gores Pamplona survival guide author

A huge fighting bull gored the American author of a survival guide for Spain's famed Pamplona bull-running festival on Wednesday when it turned its horns on him and other panicked daredevils.

The 600-kilogramme (1,320-pound) bull named Brevito lagged behind the pack just before entering the city's bull ring at the end of a rain-slicked bull run in the annual San Fermin festival.

The straggling animal skewered 32-year-old Chicago-based journalist and author Bill Hillman in the right thigh and a 35-year-old Spanish man in the chest before being guided to the end of the bull-run.

At first I thought this was a glow-bull warming thing when the word "gored" was used. Then it turns out that it ain't BS. I'm sorry, what was that old adage? In the afternoon in the arena, the bulls will get painful, pointed picks thrust into their bodies by picadors and later, they face mutilation or severence of their spinal cords by the matadors.

The tortured bulls will get a chance at retaliation if they gore the matadors to a bloody death or permanent injury.

What kind of a sick society condones, supports and applauds such a death-aura blanketing its country...emanating from a "sport" of titillation, doom, death, blood-lust and death-wishes, a "sport" which openly stimulates lusting and slavering for the injury, torture and death of humans and animals alike?

And bad what the matadors’ teams often do to the bulls to “soften them up” before they enter the arena: beatings with clubs to weaken, enemas to dehydrate, drugs to make them unsteady. I root for the bulls.
