Let the Ex-Im Bank Expire

Fellow Conservatives:

Senate Democrats plan to bring up legislation later this month that will give new life to a corporate welfare program called the Export-Import Bank.

The Ex-Im Bank is a loan guarantee program that forces American taxpayers to subsidize foreign companies.

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) reports the bank will cost taxpayers $2 billion. That’s two BILLION dollars of your money being spent to pick winners and losers. It's cronyism at its worst.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the Ex-Im Bank "removed four officials in recent months amid investigations into allegations of gifts and kickbacks, as well as attempts to steer federal contracts to favored companies."

The Ex-Im Bank is set to automatically expire this year, but that won't happen unless you take immediate action.

This program has large corporate backers with deep pockets who won't go down without a fight. In fact, they just retained a very expensive lobbyist named Haley Barbour to lobby Congress on their behalf.

Yes, this is the same Haley Barbour who raised money for a super PAC that told Democrat voters Chris McDaniel (R-MS) was a racist so they would hijack the Republican primary in Mississippi.

But that's not all.

Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said that he won't try to stop consideration of the Ex-Im Bank legislation even though House Republicans oppose it.

McConnell said he isn't sure whether he will vote for or against the bank, but said, “I do think it’s an issue that’s important enough to be debated and voted on here in the Senate.”

This is typical Mitch McConnell. He pretends to be neutral on an important issue, but allows it to move forward knowing full well that when it reaches the Senate floor the Democrats will pass it.

TAKE ACTION NOW

Republicans in the Senate have the ability to stop the reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank with 41 votes.

Please call the Republican senators today and urge them to ...

1. Oppose the Export-Import Bank at all stages. Tell them you want them to filibuster the bill if necessary.

2. Stand up to the special interests in Washington. These senators work for you, not Mitch McConnell, not Haley Barbour, and not the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Here are the six senators who need the most pressure. These senators voted to reauthorize the Ex-Im Bank in 2012 and need to change their minds on the issue in order to stop it now.

1. Roy Blunt (R-MO) -- (202) 224-5721 2. Richard Burr (R-NC) -- (202) 224-3154 3. Dan Coats (R-IN) -- (202) 224-5623 4. Jerry Moran (R-KS) -- (202) 224-6521 5. Rob Portman (R-OH) -- (202) 224-3353 6. John Thune (R-SD) -- (202) 224-2321

Thank you for standing up for the principles of freedom that make America great. If we work together, we can stop this abuse of taxpayers.

Sincerely,

Ken Cuccinelli II President, Senate Conservatives Fund

The usual slurp-at-the trough Big Government Republicans. Insuring the survival of the Export-Import Corporate Welfare program is one of the reasons McConnell and Barbour want to destroy the tea party and conservatives.

The SCF also dinged Rob Portman on this issue yesterday: "In addition to Sen. Portman's past support of Ex-Im, his votes for more taxes and massive spending increases, has many grassroots conservatives questioning his lack of commitment to reining in our out-of-control federal government."
