In Sunland Park NM, the schools give free breakfast and lunch to anyone, student or no, under the age of 18 who shows up. In reality they feed the parents too. Remind me again why we also give out food stamps?

As to your note about windows, that is a two pronged issue. First, after tax payers build what is usually the nicest building in the neigbhborhood the “community” destroys any glass they can get to. Second, energy codes have evolved to require insulated windows that are expensive to install and expensive to replace when issue #1 presents itself.

Back in the 1970s, when this school was opened, Beltsville was a nice, suburban area. The flight from PG County hadn't yet started.
