Washington (CNN) - The Republican National Committee announced Tuesday that their Site Selection Committee has picked Cleveland to host the 2016 Republican National Convention.
The full membership of the RNC is expected to ratify the Site Selection Committee's recommendation at its early August meeting in Chicago.
Last month the RNC narrowed the competition down to two finalists: Cleveland and Dallas. Denver, Kansas City, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Cincinnati, and Columbus, Ohio were previously dropped from contention.

This is a RINO RNC payoff to the (newly revealed as RINO by his actions) RINO Governor John Kasich.
Let’s pick the most leftist section of a swing state to have the Republican convention in. Yeah, that makes sense.
Well...Cleveland was the location of the Carter-Reagan debate on October 28, 1980. Maybe Cleveland will rock again for the GOP in 2016?
What???? I thought I heard they’d be holding it in Tijuana. Lots of soon-to-be illegals, booze, and hookers.
Its not where but WHO they pick.
I’m not concerned about the city. Reagan accepted the nomination in Detroit and gave a spectacular and inspiring speech while he did it.
I guess the most Democrat-leaning city in the State of Ohio is as good a site as any to launch the next ship of fools. Can’t wait to see old white women in wheelchairs being assaulted by the Penal Welfare Industrial Complex (with an authorized free pass to riot) as they try to enter to hear John Mitt III give some corny speech.
I hope they enjoy their convention because I’m going independent for the next election.I’m through with the Go along Republican Party.
They should do it pay-per-view from the moon and charge $1 million per viewer. That way no one will watch it.
Cuyahoga County is now republican????
As such, it would more likely have gone to Columbus.
FWIW, from someone "southside" of the Cleveland city line, it's a real good idea. "Downtown" will become, I suspect, practically a ConventionLand, with it pretty much blocked off. Most people get it that the conventions bring in millions of dollars for the city to spend on important stuff like a new scoreboard for the Browns. Cleveland is better off than most challenged cities, by far, because the ptb know how to keep other people's money coming in. Besides that, Mayor Jackson and Gov Kasich have worked together, too much so, in fact, for my conservative tastes. Add to that, this is not a power center for constitutional conservatives, and they might be thinking it'll be better for keeping the infighting out of the media.
Which Cleveland? Cleveland, Tennessee?
“How can they have a convention where the baseball team has an offensive name!?!?” in 3...2...1...
They usually pick a heavily liberal area and I don’t know why. It won’t help them at all.
....and the #1 reason why Cleveland was chosen as the site of the 2016 GOP Convention.....
Rooms at Motel 6 for under forty bucks.
Not unless Cruz or Palin are leading the charge.
:-)
I don’t get it.
