Right you are, Trey. The 5-minute questioning process is a way to do two things: run out the clock, and grandstand. It isn't a way to get to truth when there's an involved conspiracy to withhold it.

Bingo. The usual play for a Democrat is to give a speech filled with nothing but the week’s talking points and blame for George Bush for 4.5 minutes, then rush his question through and tell the witness to submit his answer in writing “for the record”.
