America used to manufacture a (lot) of stuff.

Now we have exported a large part of our manufacturing, to China. But not only manufacturing.

Also computer coding. Everything in fact.

We are sending away, the very things which made America great.

Bring back jobs.

When I was a young man, they built big buildings, filled them with machines, called them factories, and built things to sell.

When I was middle aged, they built big buildings, filled them with racks and shelving, called them warehouses, and sold stuff from China.

Now that I’m an old man, they don’t build big buildings anymore.

You are partly right. We have exported a lot of manufacturing and manufacturing jobs.

But you should look at the statistical data on U.S manufacturing. It's not that bad. Even Obama can't hold it down despite his efforts to do so.

What's changing is the productivity of manufacturing in this country. More automation. Fewer people. Increased productivity.

I can't vouch for the data below but I think it is pretty close. The Chinese passed us up in about 2012 or so due partly to the reason you gave and partly due to the fact that China is just a huge country population-wise. In any case, we are climbing much faster than #3 and #4 and probably all the rest.

Our goose is not yet cooked. We are, despite Obama, still a manufacturing powerhouse.
