I remember hearing that song on Dr. Demento back in the 1970s. I always thought it was a stupid song and that Dr. Demento sometimes had to scrape the bottom of the “novelty” barrel to come up with content for his show.

I remember the song when it was first released...early-mid 60's.It was a big hit here and,presumably,was at least pretty big in Canada,Britain and Australia.I thought it was really fun.It wasn't "Eve of Destruction" or "The Times They Are A Changing"...IT was lighthearted fun.

“Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport” was a hit in Australia in 1960 and scored in the US three years later. In the summer of 1963, it was far and away the most popular song in our neighborhood.
