Starting in August, the Obama administration will dramatically revamp and cut back the formula it uses to send transportation funds to the states unless Congress replenishes the Highway Trust Fund

The Department of Transportation (DOT) predicts that the fund, which has traditionally drawn its revenue from the federal gas tax of 18.4 cents per gallon, will be depleted by late August .

The agency will use a previously-established formula to calculate the percentage of remaining funds that each state will receive, with new revenues coming in every two weeks as money from the gas tax comes into the fund.

let this happen.

About 3 weeks after the pay-as-you-go measure is in place, the flushing out of agencies that used the Fed Highway fund as a slush fund will begin, as they start crying about their budgets.

I can’t wait to find out who was dipping in the ice cream....

And I bet all the choo-choo boondoggles and bike paths will get full funding.

And a handful of swing states will receive twice as much as the blue and red states combined.

...and don’t forget one of LIBs’ loves: urban mass transportation.

I’m on the road a lot. If Barry cuts off the money, how will I be able to keep my orange barrel and cones slalom skill sharp? I was looking towards entering the 2016 Olympics?

My state (Washington) has a particularly corrupt transportation division. They won’t spend a dime on anything except mass transit boondoggles. I’d love to see them go belly up.

Maybe, but Democrats like to make people suffer, then tell them if they would just vote for them everything will get better.

Beloved because it brings suburban victims to muggers, and thugs to the suburbs.

Fine with me. States can prioritize what is more important to them, and if they want extra, can pay for it themselves. While it might sound bad to lose the money, the federal government has used the highway funds to force the states into supporting things they probably wouldn’t otherwise (55 speed limit). When the funding drops, so does the ability to use it as a weapon.

Where exactly does all the money collected every single day in gas taxes go?

Good...am tired of seeing 10 Caltrans employees standing around while the 11th is in a ditch digging.

Now you know why they sew their front pockets on upside down. A lot easier to lean on their shovels.

Really? I'm trying to think of what "mass transit boondoggles" we've experienced over here in eastern Washington.

Chicago Mafia style politics continue. He’s attempting now to let states know he holds the purse.
