Missouri Governor Vetoes Abortion Waiting Period

Newser) – Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon today vetoed legislation that would have required a 72-hour waiting period for women seeking abortions. The Democratic governor said he vetoed the bill because it didn't include an exception for rape and incest victims, and hence showed "a callous disregard for women who find themselves in horrific circumstances."

The measure would've made Missouri just the third state to require a 72-hour waiting period, along with South Dakota and Utah. Utah's law includes an exception for rape and incest victims, and people under age 14. Missouri currently requires a 24-hour wait between when a woman consults a physician and receives an abortion. The Missouri House approved the legislation with enough votes to override a veto. The Senate was one vote short of a supermajority.

What a load of Horse $hit! As if waiting 72 hours will make t any worse. Besides Rape and Incest are crimes. The fact that they are aborting the evidence is tantamount to willfully destroying evidence of a crime which is a felony in every jurisdiction! It also makes the abortionist and owner of the facility accomplices after the fact, ALSO a felony in every jurisdiction.

What if I find myself in the horrific circumstance of needing to protect myself and have to put up with my state’s waiting period to purchase a firearm? Will my only resort be back alley guns?

Yes, we must allow the child rapist to drag their victim into clinics and destroy the evidence!

I am a lately transplanted Missourian (to Kansas). As far as Democrat Governors go - Jay Nixon is the best. He must be what they call one of those blue dog democrats. When he came to Joplin tornado site, he wore a camo jacket, casual clothes. When looters complained they were being handled roughly by the police, he said he was going to give the police “a little leeway”. Nothing worse than losing everything you own and having someone come along and take what little you have left.

Send the bill back with those exceptions, and watch him come up with another excuse.
