More Than 50% of Unaccompanied Immigrant Minors Remain in US

More than 50 percent of undocumented immigrant children who come into the U.S. remain in this country, an Obama Administration official told ABC News today.

At the moment, there is a backlog of more than 300,000 unaccompanied minor cases awaiting a decision on deportation due to a shortage of immigration judges and courts. It takes approximately 3-5 years to adjudicate each case.

During testimony today in front of the House Judiciary Committee, Tom Homan, the Executive Associate Director for Enforcement and Removal Operations with ICE testified about the reality of the backlog problem.

“I can say that every unaccompanied child and every family unit member are served with NTAs (Notice to Appear in immigration court) and … there’s a lack of immigration judges and some of these hearings take years. ”

In fact, while 26,000 unaccompanied children were apprehended entering the United States illegally last year, only 1800 minors were sent back to their home countries.

“87% of those are still here in proceedings … Because we have no final orders,” Homan said.

And the problem has gotten worse. To date, more than 54,000 children have been apprehended just this year — a 99% increase from last year.

Of the children who come into the U.S., more than 50% are placed with parents or family members in the United States, the official told ABC News.

I expect a vicious response by Obama to his defeats by the SCOTUS this week...and as an Arizona resident, I fear DHS immediately moving into the state and demanding that the residents open their homes to the "unfortunate immigrant children and their caretakers".

After all, Obama still has his pen.

A huge U turn sign should be placed every 50 yards from Texas to California border. Hire some of these super terrorists in Iraq and place them at each sign.( machete in hand )

Take the young ones who have not yet become gangbangers and adopt them out to childless or wanting-more-children heterosexual non-liberal couples in the U.S.

They’ll grow up to be the good citizens that we need.

>> more than 300,000 unaccompanied minor cases <<

We need to give these illegal immigrant children in-state tuition immediately, since their parents BROUGHT them here through no fault of their own. You can't PUNISH children for what their PARENTS did and they had NO choice but...

Oh wait.

Nevermind.

I’m with you. The boy king does not like to be thwarted and likely intends to continue doing what he wants, when he wants. No one stops him, so why shouldn’t he?

I read that at Lackland AFB, TX they have one of the illegal children with a case of the swine flu. With them all crowded in, imagine how fast that will spread. The article said 2,000 doses of the vaccine are on the way for people that have been exposed and people caring for the kids. Hmmmm, what’s it take ~ 2 weeks to become effective in your body? And if they have swine flu there, who’s to say it won’t be turning up in AZ and NM soon, amongst the kids housed here?

shortage of judges? 3-5 years? just how long does it take to slam a gavel down on the bench and say, ‘Deported. Next!’ ? Just how long does it take for the hispanic nations to send planes for their runaway children?

I read a story here at FR last night that indicates the same phenomenon is happening to Italy.

remember back at the beginning of the war with Iraq when the bad guys marched all their women and children out in front of them? this reminds me of that

so how long would it take to check IDs of 300,000 American citizens ???

probably less than a week if we were all bound for prison or high taxes

they wouldn’t back log us and let us run wild around the country

they say they have 300,000 illegal aliens that they plan to deport or MIGHT deport of the 30 MILLION that are in our country illegally..

and its going to take 5 years to check these people ???

that’s 1,725 days, at about 173 illegal aliens so called “processed” each day...

one judge alone could do that...

While in the grocery store on Tuesday, two guys with a baby (sigh), were talking about why were illegal kids brought over since they couldn’t vote. I commented their parents will soon be brought over and they’ll be voting and that if we really wanted to deport the kids (who we brought over)we would have already dropped them off at their embassies washing our hands of them.

Leaving the store, there was a handmade sign on the corner which read, “Deport Obama”.

A number they are not releasing is how many children they cannot locate family for- not here or back in their country...there is a large number and growing. The taxpayers are running the largest orphanage system in the world. I suspect at least one of the countries has slipped in some children from their orphanages...oh what a mess, we are only getting snippets...I hear MANY of them have scabies, lice, ringworm, you name it. Everyone will have to be diligent to check their children for all this and more since these children are being sent here, there, and yonder- many without a real medical check...

Did SCOTUS defeat him on Hobby Lobby, or did John Roberts come through for him again?

I believe we should have the national guard on the border. All illegal crossings need to end. Any coyotes that are caught, should be subject to a 20 year stay in U. S. prison.

As for the signs and the people you would like to enforce their message, I want to stay away from things that could cast a shadow on what is otherwise a very important task.
