Watchdog Cites Failures at Charity (Clinton, from 2005)

President Clinton's charitable foundation failed to meet at least six of 19 accountability standards established by the Better Business Bureau, according to a recent report from the watchdog group.

The report, issued in June, said the Clinton Foundation lacks policies requiring performance reviews for its chief executive officer and for the organization as a whole. The Better Business Bureau review also observed that the foundation's annual reports and Web site do not contain detailed financial statements or information about the charity's board of directors.

In addition, the bureau's charity evaluation service, called the Wise Giving Alliance, said it could not establish whether the foundation was observing five other good-governance practices regarding board meetings, conflict-of-interest policies, budget issues, and donor privacy.

"There are a number of concerns here," the head of the alliance, Bennett Weiner, said in an interview. "We didn't get a copy of the audited financial statement. They did have an annual report, but it didn't include specifically the board roster and the summary of finances that is recommended."

Mr. Weiner said nonprofit groups that seek money on the Internet should post detailed financial reports online.

A spokesman for Mr. Clinton, Jay Carson, said the foundation is working to address the concerns raised by the watchdog group. "In terms of the things brought up in the report, they are all either in place now or will be in place by the end of 2005," he said.

I’m thinking that in the case of the little people, like PRIESTS FOR LIFE, for example, how Father Pavone was banished, maligned and generally messed with, and ostracized, for so much less than this, regarding his simple little accounting process relegated to the hands of a handful of laity and an accountant. No nefarious “there” was there as it turned out.

In this case, you have Clinton and their powers who very well know they are above the law, or soon will be, when they get around to arranging it.

And we wonder why Chelsea and Hillary are needlessly arrogant and imposing about their station in life, traveling that life above the law and everyone else. All things are a given with this kind, because it’s a given!

QATAR DONOR TO CLINTON FOUNDATION: As Hollywood hotshots protest the Beverly Hills Hotel over its ownership by Brunei's sultan and his embrace of Sharia law, it turns out the Brunei government has financial connections to "The Clinton Foundation."

The tax-exempt, nonprofit Clinton foundation lists Brunei along with Kuwait, Oman and Qatar (new home of the Gitmo Five) as donors that gave between $1 million and $5 million through last year.

The Clinton foundation itself confirmed the 2002 Brunei donation: "The Clinton Foundation's impact would not be possible without the generous support of our donors," the foundation's website reads. (2) Reports say Bill Clinton recently went to China to panhandle for his tax-exempt "Clinton Global Initiative" foundation.

(3) The "Clinton Global Initiative" (NOT KNOWN for giving out grants)---gave Harry Reid's granddaughter a grant for a Brooklyn, NY theatre she runs (what is a Brooklyn theatre's connection to "global initiatives?")

(4) A Nevada energy company also gave Reid's granddaughter's theatre group a grant.

CLINTON POLITICS AND PROFITEERING: Boeing CEO questioned on donations to Clinton foundation Boeing's CEO faced pointed questions about its charitable donation to the tax-exempt Clinton Foundation in the same year that then-Secy of State Hillary Clinton advocated on its behalf on an official tax-financed trip to Russia.

(POSTER'S NOTE: Some might say it was common to advocate for US business---but then very few previous advocates had a presidential campaign on the burner----nor did they have three tax-exempt foundations panhandling donations from corporations.)

David Almasi, shareholder and representative of the National Center for Public Policy Research think tank, asked Boeing the question, and gave an indication of the kinds of challenges that companies could face as Hillary weighs a run for president. Dozens of major corporations have made charitable donations to the Clinton Foundation in recent years.

Almasi called the Boeing donation a "clear conflict of interest" that seemed "reckless and unnecessary." (According to Almasi's notes, CEO McNearney called an implication that the donation might have been legally questionable "beyond the pale.")

Boeing contributed $900,000 to the Clinton family foundation (there are three) just months after Clinton had traveled to Russia, where she made what she called a "shameless pitch" for a state-owned Russian company to buy Boeing passenger jets.
