More than 4,600 oil and natural gas wells were completed in Oklahoma last year as part of a domestic boom that is affecting many parts of the nation, according to reports filed with state regulators.
Corporation Commission records indicate companies applied for more than 6,000 drilling permits for the second consecutive year. That figure is up from about 4,100 permits in 2009, The Oklahoman reported Sunday.
Mike Terry, president of the Oklahoma Independent Petroleum Association, said horizontal drilling has opened vast new resources across the country and has renewed activity in Oklahomas historic oil fields.
The Mississippi Lime in northern Oklahoma was considered all but drained just five years ago, but today is it one of the countrys most active areas for oil and gas exploration, Terry said.

Horizontal drilling, fracking wells, high pressure wells, etc. are all bringing back a boom not seen in the U.S. since the late 1970’s. If we only had a President and Congress that was committed to developing all our Oil, Natural Gas, and Coal reserves, we could cut our trade deficit and not have to rely on Saudi Arabia and Venezuela for our energy needs.
We are reducing the trade deficit due to reducing our oil imports. We still import too much, but by importing more than we use, using our refining surplus capacity, we also export some more expensive refined product that helps even more.
odd thing is that neither article you posted mentioned Continental as being among the main drillers in Oklahoma. Its odd because Continental has talked up their new positions in Oklahoma.

Somehow I would have thought that Continental’s entrance into the Caana Woodford of Oklahoma formation would have made a bigger splash.
Guess they’re still in the freeze frame entry into the water part where the water crater impacts before the splash in real time.
So maybe next year or the year after we’ll hear about Continental being a big part of Oklahoma drilling
I live in the sad state of Il. We leased our farm for this type of oil production, at this time permits to drill are held up for at least 6 months. No excuse at all, just libs do not want the wells drilled. A good producing well would be great for our economy and jobs but Il. Is not interested!! It would mean more money for us to spend here in the state!
With all these holes being drilled into the earth it is bound to cause the United States to sink...... : )
Nah, not sink, just deflate.
Like a ballon don’t ya know...
