Where was the 3/5? I was in Americal DIV 1/1 CAV, based at Hill 29 about 15 km N of Tam Ky.
Started and ended that trip at McChord. Audio going. I can still hear “The Wichita Lineman” playing over and over.
I think there’s a good possibility that the DC-8 we flew over in is on static display, SE corner of USC (LA for college baseball fans) across the street. There is, or was a DC-3 there too.
Thanks for your service!

And thank you for your service, Brother! During my time, 3/5 was operating out of An Hoa, about 25 miles southwest of Danang. We operated in the Arizona, Gonoy Island, in the hills west of An Hoa - we may have been over the border in Laos, but it's not "seared" in my memory. Looking at the map, it seems we were about 15-20 miles inland of Tam Ky.
Welcome to the Canteen!

O stranger, tell the Lacedaemonians that we lie here, obedient to their command.
Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)

3/5 Cav? I served with them! Granted, it was 30 years ago and long after you did. I was a Commo grunt with the HQ troop.
The 3/5 Cav (if memory serves) was deactivated at Ft. Lewis a year after I left. It was redesignated the next year in Germany and served in Bosnia. It was deactivated again in 1997.
Nowadays, I work at Ft. Lewis...or rather, JBLM...as a civilian.
