We're All Redskins Now
American Thinker ^ | 06/23/2014 | Fay Voshell

Conservatives should be disabused of any notion that the recent revocation of the Redskins’ trademark by the US Patent Office had anything at all to do with the disparagement of Native Americans, real or perceived.

On the contrary, the exercise in political correctness is not about aggrieved Native Americans. It’s about the power to redistribute wealth and to eliminate private property. Essentially, the Left has declared that no person’s or company’s trademark (or patent) is safe. Get together a group of lawyers who are experts in victimization and who have access to some aggrieved group, find a trademark name -- or even an invention -- offensive and go at it. Now everyone can have a chunk of the Redskins franchise. It’s been equitably redistributed among the masses -- if any of the proletariat actually wants to risk being called “racist.”

It should be noted the real issue for the Left is not that the Redskins trademark is egregiously offensive. The real issue is about the power to control any entity that will not adhere to the current politically correct commandments. It is about targeting anyone who has bad, bad thoughts. For instance, companies with perfectly innocuous trademark names like Chick-fil-A and Hobby Lobby have as their CEOs people who think, according to liberals, “disparaging thoughts.” Therefore, those companies also should be driven out of business and their CEOs turned out to beg on the streets or forced to enter thought reform classes.

The contrived controversy over the term “Redskin” indicates the devolution of the law into linguistic analysis. Somewhere, everywhere, there is a Stasi-like human being in the IRS or the NSA who is poring over every word any given person is saying. Actual transgression of or actual guilt before the law?

When they stop blackmailing politicians for taxpayer money, then I might consider being a fan. Until then, I don’t care if they call themselves the Potato Skins.

When did this brouhaha about the team’s name start anyway?

For DECADES nobody even thought about it and now suddenly in 2014, it becomes a big issue? WHY?

The contrived controversy over the term “Redskin” indicates the devolution of the law into linguistic analysis.

It also has plenty to do with the Alinsky tactic of keeping things roiled up so nothing is allowed to settle.

Inertia works in the political/ideological world the same way it works in the physical world. A body at rest wants to stay at rest. In this case, a society that settles into social norms is harder to change.

I’ve lived and worked in the DC Metro area on and off for the past 25 years. It’s been an issue for as long as I’ve been here, usually on the back burner, occasionally rising to the top.

I think the reason you’re seeing such a groundswell now is quite simple: The powers that be that have agitated for a very long time sense victory. They’ve used social media and other alternative communications forums to keep the issue alive and, times being what they are, finally gotten enough people to buy in and they see the endgame in sight and are really pushing it hard.

” disparagement” -”diminuation of esteem or standing.”

Webster DEFINES “DISPARAGE”
as
“[OF](from the) French ‘disparagier’
“to marry unequally”

thus “disparage” refers to social ranking in a class society such as France or England monarchial eras or of UK today “e.g. “commoners” marrying nobility.

Webster also defines it as “
“To lower in rank or estimation by actions or words;”

But the USA has no nobility class ranking-

But the First Amendment trumps this ruling beause it is “WORDS” and I do not think previously for 230 years “redskins” as an ‘illegal word”. Besides we threw the class society British out.

This Court is attacking the First Amendment-

This Court has to go out the door.

I hereby disparage this Court

-I call them the Black Robed Bastards.

There fixed it.

USPTO is acting illegally as a court of law, is usurping the judiciary role in making judgments on free speech and first amendment rights.

I wonder if the soon-to-be-renamed Redskins could get trademark protection for the name “The Fightin’ Whities!” I think that would be a great name for them.

The only Indians I’ve ever met like the name. just as most Indians prefer to be called Indians than Native Americans. I don’t blame them one bit, were I in their shoes that is precisely what I would want too.

The Politically correct terms have connotations of being simply being helpless victims, massacred and wiped out by a brutally superior race. Whereas Indians or redskins while perhaps racially descriptive nonetheless have strong connotations about a noble warrior race of survivor that survived impossible odds to this day. A race of men that once struck fear into the hearts of other men posing such a threat, and were for the most part only finally stopped by force of treaty and settlement.

A far different image of strength than the political correct one that is simply of a helpless victim. You tell me which you would prefer to be remembered or thought of by?

Rename them the Pamunkeys in honor of the Pamunkey tribe, which still has tribal land in Virginia - one of the few tribes in the mid-Atlantic states which has reservation land.
