Parents of Elliot Rodger’s three stabbing victims try to piece together what happened
Washington Post ^ | June 20, 2014 | Kimberly Kindy

Inside a two-bedroom beachside apartment, Elliot Rodger began his Santa Barbara rampage last month by mutilating his two roommates and their friend. The scene, police said, was horrific.

But there were few signs of a struggle, according to the victims’ parents. There was no blood on the walls or ceiling, and the confrontation between Rodger and the three other young men seemed to have been confined to a small space, the parents said based on a visit to the crime scene. They said evidence taken from the apartment makes them think that Rodger may have used a machete, knives and a hammer to kill their sons.

“How did one boy do this? Our sons, there were three of them. . . . We wonder, were our boys drugged?” Junan Chen, the father of George Chen, 19, said in an interview.

After Rodger killed them on May 23, he set out in his black BMW and later on foot, fatally shooting three strangers before committing suicide. Those latter killings happened in public view — in a store and in front of a sorority house — but the first three occurred behind closed doors in the shared apartment, and the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department has disclosed few details about what happened there.

The parents of the three college students who were stabbed said it has taken them weeks to muster the courage to speak publicly about the killings. They said they finally did so in a joint interview to air their frustration with authorities’ handling of the case and the scant information that has been provided.

Sorry folks, your kids weren't killed with a gun so they don't count.

Looks like they were killed with a Hammer and a Sickle.

Can’t let that get out.

I hadn’t heard that. I guess he had to get some attention somehow.

Anybody investigating these murders professionally, or is it left to the parents to Scooby Doo the details?

"We wonder, were our boys drugged?”

My first thought. The killer was very diminutive, but also very smart and clearly plotted many of his moves well in advance. Oh, and very sick.

i am thinking that the roommates had to have gotten a bad vibe about Elliot Rodger too... unfortunately, we often ignore our gut... instinct... we don't want to look foolish... offend anybody...

i have looked foolish a few times in my life because i felt a bad vibe.. and i do not really know whether i diverted harm or over-reacted, but i do not care...

‘Hoover, the sheriff’s department spokeswoman, would not say when deputies ultimately entered the apartment, saying, “There were a lot of moving parts that evening; there was a lot to consider when responding to the location.”

When the families met privately with Brown on the Monday after the rampage, they asked about the response time. The parents said at first he said “within an hour.” When pressed, they said, he finally acknowledged that he wasn’t sure.’

No wonder they lied, someone in the police dept. is trying to protect their job. Probably someone with the clout to force other people to lie and to divert the attention away from the true story.

When did Americans become so cowardly that they will lie to keep a job? Seems to me it goes back to Clinton and his twisting of the truth, he did it with no repercussions.

When the killer forced the arrest of a roommate over some candles, how was he able to make this happen? The killer’s own transgressions were intentionally overlooked. Who are his parents? Bundlers for Obama maybe? That is where the truth lies.

I think that if there had been no Clinton, Obama would not have been possible. The Clintons paved the way for the evil people that we are stuck with today.

Are you referring to these Chinese students' parents, or the leftwing, publicity-seeking attorney father named Martinez who installed himself permanently in front of the media within minutes of his son's murder? I don't know; but I suspect he was an absentee dad when the kid was alive, hence his hyperdramatic crocodile tears.

Martinez mentioned at the college speech that at least one of the roommates’ parents stood with him in calling for more gun control.

Coming from totalitarian China, how could they hope to understand the development of the gun culture here, which enabled the good guys to settle a huge country of frontiers, and cope with urban crime as well?

I am very much in favor of the 2nd Amendment; but also very much in favor of better research and reporting of people with serious mental health issues. Having read the guy's 147-page life story, it was an unthinkable childhood with hipster parents doing a piss poor job of helping an autistic child. Tragic results of their looney lifestyle, particularly the idiot father, who is now again thrusting himself into the spotlight over gun control. Guess he thinks that will obliterate his accoutability for tossing his impaired child and the mother aside to chase younger tail. I'd call him a moron, but it would be an insult to morons everywhere.
