This is purely a political decision. Those trademarks have stood for years. Obama and his cohorts are now politicizing the patent office.

How many other pro teams have Indian names? How many universities, colleges, high schools have Indian names?

No matter how you feel, the US Patent Office has zero authority to make such a ruling.
This is a matter for the Court system to determine if anyone can regulate what you call something or someone.
Now if they wanted to call themselves “Jedi”, this would be covered under current Copyright laws.

The Founders were super-duper big on patents and trademarks because they recognized that private property was the single most important facet of a free Republic.
I don’t recall hearing about “curbing” rules in civics class in regards to current and subjective attitudes about what is “OK” and what is not.
