Karl “Turd Blossom” Rove persuaded Perry as a West Texas Agriculture Democrat to become a Republican Party Member, back in the day when the BIG TENT was considered to be harmless.

In Texas, there are
no statewide offices held by democrats. Many 'former' democrats switched to being 'republicans' once they knew they couldn't get elected with a more honest label.
Perry is an opportunist, and we're fed a cock and bull story about his 'conservatism' which has kept him in office. He's big on amnesty.
He's not going to do anything about this latest invasion because he's not currently running for office, and doesn't think it will help his presidential ambitions.
